My mom passed last year and been trying to get a stone on her burial place. She was cremated and wanted to be buried between her parents. My sister called the funeral home about getting the grave marker printed up and during that phone call ***** asked my Sister “ Do you have your mom‘s ashes, right?” She told her we have just a few as we asked for the remainder of the ashes were to go out to the cemetery now after several phone calls attempting to find out where are the ashes? My sister has called several times. She has been hung up on, talk to rudely. So then, my nephew has tried to call. He spoke with a man named ****, and he told my nephew that he’s going to check the cemetery and the crematorium for the ashes. The caretaker at the cemetery never received the ashes, and the ashes left the crematorium to go to Turpin, I have asked and my sister has asked for us to look at records to see what happened with her ashes and we are hitting Brick wall after brick wall. I have just tried to contact a lawyer to see if we can get some answers.

RE:    Clarification on the matter on the displacement of the ashes of
      ****** ******

      To Whom
      It May Concern:

      It
was brought to the attention of Turpin Funeral Home staff that the family of
****** ****** is concerned about the location of her cremated remains. *** ****** passed away on May 21, 2023, at ******* ************* ****. She was
transported from ******* to ******** ******* ********* and was cremated on May
22, 2023. After the cremation process, **** ****** transported the cremated
      remains of *** ****** from ******** ******* ********* back to Turpin Funeral
      Home.
      It
was the wishes of *** ****** to have her family pick up her cremated remains
and conduct a memorial service, (which was conducted at ***** ******* ****** on
May 26, 2023, then have the remains returned for burial in ***** **** ******** in her parents’ burial plots. All of this was planned by *** ******.
      The
cremated remains were never returned to the funeral home after the memorial
service. The family of *** ****** has some of the cremated remains in a plastic
bag that Turpin was instructed to remove from *** ******'s ashes because they
were going to use them for mementoes. Obviously, the ashes were released to the
family, or they wouldn't have any at all. *** ***** ******, who is the
caretaker of the cemetery, has no indication that *** ****** was buried in the
cemetery. In order for any burial to take place, he would have been contacted
by the funeral home and he would have marked the grave and notated this event
in his cemetery ledger. There is no record of this event.
      We
have been contacted by a nephew, *******, a daughter, ******, and a daughter,
********. When talking to *******, he sent a picture of the cremated remains
that the family was given for the mementos. **** sent back a picture of the
container the cremated remains would be in and stated that the cremated remains
were not at Turpin Funeral Home.
      ******
then contacted **** who told her the same thing that he relayed to *******. The
ashes were never returned to Turpin after the memorial service.
      Then
it was stated that the ashes were not given to them, but when the programs for
the service were printed at the funeral home, the cremated remains were
released to the family for the memorial service and never brought back to
Turpin. In fact, ****** didn't even know that was supposed to happen because
when **** told her of *** ******'s wishes and that ******* had sent those
instructions to ****, she stated she never saw those wishes which her mother
      signed.
      To
sum things up, the cremated remains of **. ****** ****** were never returned to
Turpin for burial. There were some delays in response to family members due to
other business matters and services, but they were never "hung up" on
or treated badly in any way.
      Our
question is, why is this just now being brought up after a year?
