Upon being hired at One Step Beyond, for almost all of the past year, I have encountered several safety issues that I have attempted to bring to my supervisors' attention, including but not limited to: (1) Provider-to-Patient ratio (should be 1:6) being incorrect, which can be for a multitude of reasons, such as: (a) members who are required to have 1:1 support, due to their level of disability, not receiving the 1:1 attention they require, because their staff is included in ratio, (b) staff not actually being present or not showing up to classes and being included in ratio, and (c) members being added last minute to classes that in turn, make the ratio uneven. I know myself and my partner, who was also my coworker, and is still currently the fitness assistant at this location, can say for certain that we have been left in these compromising situations many times. The worst of which for me was when I was left with only one other newly hired staff, who was supposed to be a 1:1 (and who was also included in the ratio), while this same member who requires the 1:1 had a seizure, (of which the staff had not been properly trained on how to deal with a seizure), with only us two staff present, and around ***** other members present. (2) This location (********) of One Step Beyond is not safe for members, as this is the only location that member's are able to freely walk out the doors that lead to the street, and buildings for their classes are separated. As a result, transitions between classes are not safe, as there is already a shortage of staff as is, and there is simply not enough supervision. There have been a few instances where I have actually seen members walking in the street, confused and unattended to.Unfortunately, there have been many instances like this. As soon as I started bringing up these issues to my upper management and became upset, because I felt as though I was being gas lit, I was met with written warnings, and then a few weeks later, I was fired.
