On May 16, 2024, Summit 4x4 installed after-market front end (steering) components in my **** F350 truck. I immediately experienced significant steering issues, including "death wobble," an offset steering wheel, and an impossible to align front end, resulting in severe wear on four new ******** tires (they were rotated over a period of time after separate front-end alignment attempts). It took several months, several thousand miles, and several visits to various repair shops to finally identify and fix the problem in October 2024: the steering components had been installed improperly, resulting in front-end that would quickly slip back into severe misalignment ("toe-in") shortly after alignment service. The business owner, ***** ****** was initially responsive but has now refused to return my calls or emails seeking resolution. I have already submitted repair and alignment records, photos, and a clear statement of my reimbursement expectations to him. I would much prefer direct resolution with Mr. ****** but small claims court may be necessary to intervene at this point. My total cost (the ruined tires were brand new, put on two weeks after the steering components were installed, as an attempt to "fix" the steering problems) for tires and alignment, realignment, and ultimate repair is $2,264.78.

Dear Mr. **************** spoken at length regarding your concerns, and I wanted to follow up to clarify our position. As you mentioned, the alignment shop in ********* confirmed that your vehicles alignment was within specifications and found no issues at that time. Based on this information, and considering the mileage and off-road use youve described since that inspection, its difficult to understand why the responsibility for your tire wear would fall on us.
Out of courtesy, I offered to reimburse you for the cost of your alignment check in an effort to demonstrate goodwill. However, you have continued to express that you feel we should cover the cost of your tires. Given that your vehicle left our shop with the alignment verified and a second shop confirmed the same, I do not believe it would be reasonable for Summit 4x4 to assume responsibility for the tires at this time.
That said, I remain willing to work with you in good faith should you wish to discuss other ways we might assist. Please feel free to reach out if youd like to continue the conversation.
      Sincerely, ***** *****

Thank you for responding, Mr. ************** think you may have missed the point of the complaint. My concern is that your shop incorrectly installed the steering components, i.e. installed at improper length. It is hardly surprising that the first alignment check done by the shop in ********* failed to indicate an alignment problem; indeed, the alignment at that point (within a few hundred miles of the parts' installation) was likely still within specs. The reason I went there is because I experienced for the first time ever the "death wobble" I was trying to avoid with new parts.

The issue is that within ***** miles, the alignment changed and the front end could no longer maintain re-alignment because of the improperly installed components. Death wobble continued to occur. These issues were not resolved until October when the technician at **** in *******, **, discovered that the components were installed at the wrong length, allowing the excessive "toe-in" that destroyed my tires over time. Your shop is indeed responsible for that.

As far as the "off road" operation that you mentioned in your response - I do not operate my vehicle off-road for sport or entertainment. While I've been down dirt roads on rare occasion because there are no paved roads available (i.e. in some state or national parks), these were roads that while unfinished, were not rutted, grooved, rocky, uneven, or hazardous to the vehicle in any way. I'm not a "rock crawler" or "rock climber." We are full-time RVers and our truck is our primary (only) mode of transportation and we are reliant upon it as our tow vehicle.
