We hired Elena Joy to train our management team about the impact of psychological safe space on creating a company feedback culture. Her correspondence prior to the event was strong. After 3 meetings with our executives, we aligned on an agenda which included a variety of topics to be used for examples. The following week, Elena trained our team of 40. The tailored agenda was not delivered. Her opening statement to our session was, My job here is to make white men sweat. This, paired next to the examples of marginalized group used to illustrate points, which were not varied as requested, set an unwelcoming tone to the group. She used examples and case studies under the umbrella of mostly sexual orientation, and a brief mention of neurodivergence, when we additionally asked for those including race, religion, gender, ethnicity, and mental health. Second, much of the training time was spent with Elena in discussion with just three or four of the 40 employees. She did not engage the participants to practice new skills to create safe spaces, nor steer them back to the agenda when we were off topic. Thirdly, Elena was dishonest with one of our employees (in front of the entire large group) when she asked about his background and said she had no knowledge of his family prior. In fact, the information was shared less than 30 minutes prior. Our managers did not walk away with any new skills. We received no correspondence from Elena Joy until 3 weeks after the event. She refused a follow up meeting which was previously promised. The email we finally received included a mostly generic, 1-page review of our session. We were not satisfied with the price we paid for the content we were delivered, and we requested a partial refund, which was not granted. We strongly do not recommend.
