On 14 Jun 24, I took my Polaris Alpha pool cleaner to Shawn's Pool Shop, **************, for repairs, and paid $25 for them to look at it. I returned on 17 Jun and was told it would take "over $500" to fix it. Note that the unit was a replacement given by Polaris because the first unit was unrepairable. Even though it was only a year old, ***** said there was no warranty on that unit since they didn't sell it to me. On 17 Jun, they sold me on at Polaris Freedom pool sweeper as a replacement for $1,493.79. I didn't open the box in any way. I put it in my living room and went on a trip. I asked my pool service representative about it and he was concerned if it would serve a pool the size of my diving pool. He recommended another corded Polaris and installed it for me while I was away. Today, 28 Jun, I tried to return the unopened box, untouched since I left the shop on the 17th. The owner smugly said no returns, just store credit, as if I had bought a $25 pool toy. He did not inform me of the policy before I spent $1493...only after, and then with a smug "gotcha" attitude. Without clear notice before spending so much money, the practice is predatory, the attitude of the owner was abhorrent. I found the sign posted about the return policy...it is a 12"x14" sign hanging at about 12 feet in the air - no one is going to see it unless they are specifically looking for it, as I was when cheated today. The policy is printed on the receipt too, which the salesman promptly folded to give it to me when I purchased the item...again I found it after searching for it. Abysmal business practice. I later learned from another dealer that Polaris would take the item back from Shawn's Pool Shop without question - so ***** had nothing to lose in returning my money...he simply enjoyed cheating a customer.
