In early January 2023, I received invoices for two of my children (dated December 16, 2022), informing me of thousands of dollars worth of lab tests that I apparently owed. The service date listed on the invoices was back from February 1, 2021, which aligned with a standard Covid-19 test that my children had received.Surprised at having received such a letter (and suspecting a possible scam), I sent an email to the email address listed on the invoice ************************************** informing them that:1) no request was made to conduct any tests aside from the standard Covid-19 test.2) it was represented to me prior to the Covid-19 test that the testing would not result in any out-of-pocket expenses. 3) I wanted to know how they intended to resolve the matter.Because I never received a response from the customer service email address (this was 6 months ago), I assumed the matter had been resolved. However, last week I received another letter from the company informing me that:1) My insurance company mistakenly issued payment to me (this is not true)2) if the above isn't the case, I am required to reach out to my insurance company to help straighten out the issue, and 3) "non-payment or delayed resolution of the outstanding balance may result in additional collection efforts"I will not be bullied and have no intention of paying for services that I did not request or benefit from. I am very disappointed with the way that the company has chosen to handle this matter, and I will file a complaint with the local ************************* if not resolved to my satisfaction.

      Business Response

      Date: 11/06/2023

      Hello,

We have completed a review of the claims in question and have determined that your insurance responded to our claim incorrectly by indicating a payment had been made in the form of a check that was sent to the primary policy holder. The insurance that was provided to us was out of network and has stated in their policy that out of network payments are made to the policy holder. After much discussion with your insurance it has been determined that the insurance acted outside of their own policy guidelines by sending a check to an outdated address on file for the provider. This issue has been resolved in our system and the remaining balance has been moved back to the insurance responsibility.

As for the type of test that was ordered, we understand that some physicians choose to order a more comprehensive test to rule out any other infections could be causing the symptoms. Unfortunately, it is not in the laboratories capacity to question why a physician ordered a certain test, it is the responsibility of the physician seeing the patient to order accurate and reasonable tests.
