    I was charged $223.46 for an inspection I did not consent to, and was not informed of the cost beforehand. I believe this charge was unfair, deceptive, and imposed under coercion.
    Details of your complaint
    On May 23, 2025, I took my car to [Insert Business Name] and specifically requested only an oil leak inspection. At no point did the staff inform me that the inspection would cost $223.46.
    However, they went ahead and performed multiple unrelated checks without my approval. Later, they told me the repair would cost over $1,000, and that if I wanted to take my car back without doing the repair, I would have to pay $223.46 for the inspection.
    Since they had possession of my car and keys, I had no choice but to pay the fee to get my vehicle back.
    I believe this practice is highly unethical and constitutes coercion and overcharging. I later went to another mechanic who fixed all the necessary issues, including the oil leak, for just $360 total — proving that the previous estimate and inspection fee were highly inflated and unnecessary.
    Resolution requested
    I am requesting a full refund of the $223.46 charge. The service was unauthorized, the fee was not disclosed in advance, and I was forced to pay under pressure to retrieve my own vehicle.

    Thank you for your feedback. Ms. ** visited our shop requesting a fluid leak evaluation. At the time of check-in, she completed our entry form and was informed of the diagnostic fee associated with evaluating her vehicle. She acknowledged and approved the fee prior to leaving the vehicle with us.After completing a thorough inspection and preparing a full vehicle health report, we shared the findings with Ms. ** for her review. Upon discussing the recommended services and related costs, she chose not to proceed with the repairs at that time and arranged for someone to pick up the vehicle.When her representative arrived, he expressed concern regarding the diagnostic fee. Our team clarified that the fee had been explained and agreed to at the time of drop-off. After further discussion, he acknowledged the information provided and completed payment before taking possession of the vehicle.We are committed to transparency and ensure that all diagnostic fees are clearly communicated and documented before any work begins. We appreciate the opportunity to serve our clients and always strive to provide clear, respectful communication throughout the process.
