Work began on March 31, 2025. I gave ****** Bayze (Bayze Painting LLC) a 60% cash down payment. From the start, there were major concerns with his professionalism and quality of work. He used unapproved paint types and finishes (including mixing whites and applying matte on surfaces where semi-gloss was requested), failed to properly p*** or mask surfaces, dun ******* and *********************************** showed me he used watered down paints ( warranty down from 10 to 3 years, and used the wrong paint for metal areas like gates and ironwork, and painted over the foam rollers and rubber of the gate.Despite my clear instructions, he presented an invoice listing eggshell finish, which was never approved to cover a semigloss .Only my husband signed itI did not, and Im a co-owner of the property. Under AZ law, both property owners must sign such agreements for them to be enforceable.I terminated the working relationship on April 4 due to substandard work, mis***resentation, and lack of communication. I gave him a chance to fix the issues and work on the 4th, but no effort was made. He continued to paint with matte watered down paints. Then , I was met with hostility and an escalating series of text messages threatening a lien if i did not let him finish from April 5 to April 7, which I ultimately had to block due to harassment.I made it clear that I was not seeking a refund, only that we both walk away and cut losses. I also informed him Id be reviewing the situation with a licensed painter and a **** and ******* *** who did a video walk through documenting everything with photos and timestamps which i can include for the bbb to review including still pictures of the work . If u send me an email request , i can forward the video with ***resentative and product integrity test on my home and his text messages. This complaint is to document unprofessional conduct, poor workmanship, and harassment, and to warn others about doing business with Bayze Painting LLC.

    Business Response

    Hello,

I am writing this response to this complaint. I am the owner of this company, prior to becoming a licensed contractor I worked for ******* ********; out of college for six years as a store manager and as a sales representative/inspector. This can be verified so that you can refer back to this for future reference. On Saturday, March 15th, I received a text message from this homeowner asking for an estimate. I scheduled a date and time that following Monday, March 17th. When I arrived to do a walk-through estimate, I met the homeowners and discussed the process as well as answer any questions and/or concerns that they had. Their home was not in the best condition some notable concerns were cracks, loose peeling paint on the wood substrate areas, wood rot and other noticeable problems seeming to relate to the weather wearing on the condition of the home. In addition, homeowner stated that; it had been some time since the home has been repainted. After doing the walk-through, I made some recommendations as far as paint vendors and sheens that could benefit the homeowners the best; this was in consideration to the heat and sun that Arizona gets every year. This house was previously a flat sheen. Therefore, I did recommend that eggshell sheen would be best because that sheen has better color retention over a flat sheen in ******** weather elements. This was only a recommendation; the homeowners werent forced to make the selections that I recommended. The homeowners agreed and asked if I could also repaint the metal gates/front metals screens; I informed them I could but I would use a different paint since it is a metal substrate and recommended a DTM (Direct-to-metal) coating. We also discussed which paint vendors and paint quality to choose from. The homeowners ended up choosing ****-*******, Spartashield (a premium grade exterior paint for stucco/wood substrate areas), and Aristoshield (paint coatings for metals substrate areas) both in an eggshell sheen. Before leaving the first initial walk-through, I had gotten their email since I email over estimates within ***** hours after doing the walk-through. The estimate was emailed; a couple hours later after doing the walk-through that same day. After emailing and sending a text notification to let them know their estimate is complete, I received a phone call from the husband to let me know they approved my estimate and wanted to get a scheduled start date. The estimates that I email are very detailed and itemized. It shows: the paints that are to be used, sheens, materials, quantity, cost as well as, a detailed labor description. We agreed on a start date, which was Monday March 31st. The husband asked how to pay the deposit, I let him know that I can collect the deposit the day we do the pressure washing when I bring over a printed form of the estimate/contract to get wet signatures and color confirmation. I also offered to bring over paint samples of colors just to make sure they were happy prior to getting and tinting the paint. I delivered two paint samples prior to the start date and the homeowners decided to stick with the original colors that would eventually wear on their house. Paint samples are recommended if unsure on what colors to choose from since you get more of feel of the paint color versus getting a small paint swatch. This way you, get a true color representation and how it will really look on the house itself.

On Monday March 31st, I arrived before my crew started the pressure washing to get color confirmation written on the printed contract as well as a wet signature. This working week there was approximately three days my crew had to stop the project early due to high winds and possibility of rain; which caused a delay. The homeowners acknowledged and understood this. On Thursday April 3rd my ******* let me know that **** (the wife) tipped all my workers $100.00 because she was happy with the work so far. I checked in everyday until Friday, April 4th. This is when my ******* informed me that the wife was now complaining about colors, as well as the sheens. I stopped by and was met with rage from the wife. At first, I thought something happened when I was not around. She (****) complained that the colors didnt look like what I picked out, as well as the sheen is a too dull, matte and flat sheen. She goes on to say, This is not what I wanted. I was confused because these colors and sheen was something she agreed on. Keep in mind that I did the estimate two weeks prior as well as dropped of wet paint samples prior to scheduled work. I let her borrow my color fan deck as well, prior to us working on the exterior paint. I pointed out why she did not address this before we started the project and prior to us tinting the paint from the agreed upon color and sheen from the emailed contract.

Also the contract was exactly $6278.83 (minus the credit/debit card transaction fee), not $6500.00 as the homeowners stated. The homeowners paid $3200.00 (not 60%, as homeowner claimed) on the first start working day when wet signatures/color verification was signed on the contract. A test that the homeowner stated she had done never happened, especially in that short time frame. Anyone that doubts this can reach out to both vendors (****-*******/******* ********) can verify this. The reason this homeowner went on to leave my company a bad review, is due to me informing her that I had filed a complaint with the Registrar of contractors. Which I did to proceed on the steps/action to take. Due to confidentiality, I attached a picture of the contract that was not only emailed/but printed and signed off with wet signatures. You can see how itemized/detailed the contract is. The attachments the homeowners provided was on a unfinished project, due to homeowners canceling before work was completed. Again, prior to this, I have reached out to the homeowners to let us finish the work as agreed on. If anyone has questions, feel free to reach out.

I just received a copy of the response from the business today , april  30 th via mail.
I would like to know how i can submit video evidence and pictures for review of the BBB .
When i filed the complaint , i was limited in number of characters and could not submit evidence or the police report. Yet , the business was permitted to submit a 3 page narrative. What is the process ? If u could respond to this email or call me at ***********. It would be appreciated.
He jumped into my backyard close to midnight one night and stole the 3200 dollar watered down mixed paint . I was in the living room and heard him. I have the police report. He painted my solar panels , gaskets on gates , watered down wood filler and paint etc.  the pictures of the trim are what 6200 dollars gets u completed. Mixed whites painted the brick. The trim was painted/ finished and left peeling and cracked. I fired him before he got to the garage . Id like to submit these for review . These are pictures of only a fraction of the poor workmanship . Thank you . If u can take these i to evidence and warn others . I also have video of ******* ******** representative going through his work two days after i told him to leave the property.

This is my second response to the homeowners. First, I have reached out multiple times to allow my company to finish the agreed contract. The wife stated that I dealed with her husband who had some health issues (I had no idea), and wonder why she would bring this up. Everyday I showed up I would see the husband go out to walk his dog and looked perfectly fine. After attempting to reach out to the homeowners, I filed a complaint with the ***. The pictures the homeowners provided are to make it look like it was a finished project, which is far from the truth. I'm very willing to go back and finish this job. At this point, I believe the homeowners didn't have the remainder payment to pay once the job was complete so she (the wife) made an excuse to stop us from completing this project. I have never experienced this type of behavior throughout my years in business. The inspections the wife claims she had done from ****-*******/******* ******** is a complete lie. I even reached out to both vendors to verify this and there was no record and no way that a lab test could be done in that short time frame (2 days). I even reached out to the homeowners and gave them names of who I spoke to and the contact info to prove that the homeowners were being dishonest. Also a 60% deposit was not paid upfront that the wife claims (they paid $3100 cash upfront), which is lower. If anyone reading this that is potentially wanting my services, I'm  more than happy to discuss this with proof (texts/contract info/ contact info of the vendors she claims to have an inspection being done at the homeowners house). I'm very transparent.
