      My mother was in search of a long term storage facility due to her leaving state for 18 months. After carefully reviewing multiple facilities websites my mom decided to go with ‘Storwise’ she called to confirm that they had not only long term storage but actual security measures to ensure her belonging would be kept safe (according to the person on the phone they do ‘lots of business for people with long term storage needs’). Upon doing the paperwork my mom declined ‘Storwise insurance’ as she had her own home owner’s insurance. My mom went ahead and stored her entire life in this storage unit, paintings, a computer, tv, surround sound, a bed, and the list goes on. My mom came home early on Friday, February 2nd 2024 after 16 months to find her lock broken on the storage unit. Upon opening the storage unit she found the bed to be gone, every box rummaged through, and all the boxes with the electronics gone. My mom immediately went to the office to report it to Carolyne (the manager). And Carolyn’s response ‘are you sure?’ Followed by ‘hopefully you bought our insurance’. (My mom had purchased her own and ended up switching insurance companies not realizing she would come home to a broken in unit.) My mom proceeded to call the police to file a report. So here’s my thing this facility offers ‘longer term secure storage’ but when asked what they actually do to secure the grounds I was told that they have camera’s (their cameras only cover half the facility). But because we didn’t know what date the break-in accrued on they won’t look through the footage (which I can understand not looking through a years worth). And there actually doesn’t appear camera pointed towards my moms unit at all. Then I was informed that they throw out ALL video surveillance after a year. So my question to Carolyn was ‘then how do you provide ‘long term secured storage’?’ I was abruptly directed to the area supervisor, David Carter, and was told to wait for his call back. It’s now Monday afternoon and I still have yet to hear from him. That means for 15 months carolyn and whatever other ‘employees’ have walked by this unit with a broken lock. How do you not notice? When it’s your job to notice and help keep the facility secure. What about all the other units, How do you know they haven’t been broken into, Or do Storwise and its employees only care about the storage units insured by them?
