      My roommate and I have been residents of Breakwater Apartments for one year only. Our security deposit was $830. We both require emotional service pets to live with us and we did not pay any pet rent or pet deposit for our dogs. Following move out on 7/14/2022, we were sent an invoice that required us to pay $349.50 after they took our entire deposit to "heavy clean" and do a full repaint on the apartment. While, we can understand the need to replace or deep clean the carpet due to having pets, we left our apartment with minimal flaws that surely do not require heavy cleaning or a full paint job costing the company over $1000 to complete. Prior to move out, my roommate scheduled a pre-move out inspection with our landlord so that we can work on anything that needs replacement or cleaning before our move out day. However, our landlord did not show up to our appointment, and I had to turn in the keys without having this opportunity. We also were charged with a late fee for our last month of rent. However, we have never made rent late. We have sent our landlord emails and voice messages in regards to our final bill and have not heard from her in several days. The notice in the mail requires us to pay the charge within 15 days from move out or risk being sent to collections. However, it was sent as late as 7/21/2022. We suspect this charge is an attempt to collect the money that they did not receive for pet rent and feel as though we are being targeted for this reason.
