I give this place a one star rating. I came here through Aging Adults of Kern County and am grateful for what they do for senior citizens. Places aren't always what they seem to be as is the case with Alma D Best. They advertise as a boarding house, yet they don't follow landlord tenant laws. Aging Adults told me I was entitled to a single room. Management told me that single rooms were offered by seniority, that there was a list. I've been here 9 most, watched quite a few new clients get single rooms while I'm still in the same 3 man room that I've been in since day one. That leads me to believe that there's some kind of prejudice against me. I was never informed of the bed bug infestation, nor that there is a registered sex offender living on the premises. They advertise three meals a day, plus snacks and fresh fruit. There are no snacks, no fresh fruit and the meals are skimpy and don't have enough calories to sustain an adult. There are 30 people here and the place has no emergency evacuation plan in effect. No maps on the walls, and were locked in to where we couldn't get far enough away from the house should there be a fire. The management Treats the tenants like their less than and have no respect for their privacy. They enter rooms without permission, and go thru tenants drawers and belongings without them being there. They rent to handicapped, yet there are no hand rails in the showers, no fire sprinklers, a fire hose closet with no hose. All in all the place is a law suit waiting to happen. I wouldn't recommend anyone putting a loved one in any of their homes. The two owners should be ashamed of their selves. I'm a very easy going person and believe in giving everyone a fair chance and the benefit of the doubt and it's a shame that they charge so much and don't even give was they offer in their brochure. They could do great things here for those in need yet they do the bare minimum. My prayers go out to those who believe they are stuck here.
