In March 2022, I bought my residence. I went to the Beaumont/ /Cherry Valley District and I asked if the previous homeowners had any outstanding/ remaining balances on their water account. The water company representative told me there were no remaining balances. I was trying to get information from the water company, before I closed escrow. After closing escrow, I went back to the water district and I opened the water services under my name. I showed the water district the closing escrow documents and the water service was turned on. I was never told by the water company they could not turn-on the services because there was a remaining balance or the account was in delinquent status. I paid the water bill for the next seven months with no issues. I recently received a water bill for $850.00 (eight hundred fifty dollars). I called the water company and spoke with their Supervisor ******. She informed me the previous homeowners had a remaining balance and they could not get ahold of them to pay for it. I explained to ****** I am the new homeowner and I had gone to the water company to verify the account status, before I closed escrow. I was told the account did not have any outstanding balances. ****** told me I have to pay the previous homeowners balances of $850.00 or they are going to shut off my water. I explained to ****** that was not my responsibility to pay for the previous homeowners water bill and I am only responsible to pay for my current water bill. I told ****** it was unfair for me to pay $850.00, for a service that I never used. I also explained to ****** I have disabled child and we depend on the water services. ****** ultimately said either I pay the remaining balance of $850.00 or the water is going to be turned off.
I need help from the BBB to help me resolve this matter. I should not pay $850.00 for a service I never used and my water should not be turned off. I have a disabled child. Thank you.
