    Following an thorough initial consultation, I hired Black Gold Roofing to replace a portion of the underlay and flashing for our tile roof, as well as install the required eave closures : a small but costly job. I had confidence in the company, as my mother had a long-standing relationship with them, confidence that I soon discovered was sorely misplaced. The material Black Gold used for the underlay is the material roofers use for shingle roofs, not red tile roofs. This underlay is failing to keep out moisture. In addition, the manner in which they re-installed the perimeter tile and underlay has essentially created a canal of sorts, where the eaves meet. I now have additional leakage, leakage where none existed before the work. I attempted to contact Black Gold, to see the leaks for themselves. I kept getting promises to "come take a look" but after weeks of trying and getting the run around, I finally called another roofing company - a reputable company that neighbors and friends have employed, without incident. The contractor was in utter disbelief, as he assessed all of the leakage and discovered the incorrect materials Black Gold used for the underlay, the poor manner in which the tile was installed, the lack of appropriate meet-points, etc. The bottom line? Black Gold Roofing charged a premium for a shoddy job, a job that has caused further issues that must be addressed, now, by a roofing contractor who stands behind their work.
