As needed from the DMV for registering my vehicle, I needed to have a smog check done for my Honda Civic. I went to the nearest Smog Check station, Smogster to have it done. Pulling into the station, J**** *******, a burly man with glasses and an overgrown beard and a hoodie pulled over his head approached my car window to assist me with the service. I gave him the keys and watched from a distance as he “performed” the test. It didn’t take very long for him to perform the check and I assumed it to be good to go. Without saying anything he just motioned me to his desk, which I found to be quite unprofessional, nonetheless when I met with him to proceed with payment he told me to sign a sheet but didn’t explain at all what it was for. Assuming my car had passed I signed, however he pulled up my report showing a highlighted list of four possible issues with my car. Processing the fact that I had issues with my car, I realized it may have been related to an accident I had in February of 2023, I brought back my anxiety and frustration from the incident. However he told me the service fee was going to cost 51.75 but he didn’t mention that I failed the smog test. I had to ask him. He immediately replied “No”. Confused after having never failed one before, I simply asked him if I would have to pay again after getting the issues with my car fixed and later passing the test. He abruptly replied “Can I finish?”, which I immediately thought was rude and completely unnecessary for one he was finished talking, and two he should have been receptive and open to questions from the paying customer. He stated that I would only have to pay $15 upon returning. As he was finishing whatever he was doing on his computer, I told him, “You need to let customers ask questions”. He unreasonably took offense and began escalating the situation. He said I came to the station in a bad mood, which was a delusion of his. I was in shock by his demeanor and didn’t know why he needed to be so abrasive.
