Ad Review
On April 8, 2021, BBB Serving Los Angeles and Silicon Valley requested that the business substantiate, modify, or discontinue claims on the company's website, www.celestolite.com. The company advertises "NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS" and "NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS
Celestolite products are not tested on animals. We are proud to be cruelty free."
The company also advertises the following claims:
- "TESTED & APPROVED IN THE USA"
- "To achieve optimal results, skin needs more than just minerals alone. That's why we at Celestolite have taken nature's most effective botanicals and paired them with scientifically proven ingredients. This has allowed us to create product lines that target the most common skin issues while preventing future signs of aging."
- "Celestolite is a prestige skin care brand that offers its customers a true 'star' experience. Each Celestolite collection is specially formulated with signature ingredient: powdered meteorite."
The BBB Code of Advertising states that, "1.1 The primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB."
The BBB Code of Advertising also states, "34. Claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data."
As of May 3, 2021, the business has failed to respond to our request for substantiation, modification, or discontinuation of the advertised claims.
Important Information
Additional Info
According to BBB files, records show that the company has a pattern of complaints concerning consumers being sold skincare products with the promise of refunds from your sales representatives' if the consumers were unsatisfied. Once the consumer attempted to return the product they were informed of the No Refund Policy, which was only printed on their receipt. Per California state law retailers must inform consumers about their refund policy by conspicuously placing a written notice of the policy, so it can be easily seen and read. The policy must be displayed either at each entrance, at each cash register and sales counter, on tags attached to each item, or on the company's order forms. A return policy printed only on a receipt, for example is not sufficient. On May 10, 2017 the BBB contacted the company in regards to our concerns about the amount and the pattern of complaints we have received. Unfortunately, the BBB did not receive a response.
