Initially, their pricing was competitive with other moving quotes I received. I decided to go with J&L to support black business owners in *********. However, my problems began when the movers arrived with a rented 26-foot truck.I expressed my concerns that the truck would be insufficient for the volume of my belongings, but ******** assured me that everything would fit. Unfortunately, this was not the case. After a full day of loading, they were unable to finish because the truck was too small. Eventually, they rented a larger truck and reloaded my items, but by then, significant damage had already occurred. My belongings were scratched, dented, and some pieces of furniture were broken. Several items were missing, and I noticed water damage to my chairs, among other issues. I immediately informed ******** that while I could overlook minor damages, the missing bed components and the broken nightstand required either repair or replacement. I requested their insurance information so I could file a claim, but ******** refused to provide it. When I asked him about insurance before the move, he had assured me that they were properly insured. Instead, he offered to deliver the missing items when he had a job in my area, with no clear timeline. When I pressed for specifics, he was unable to provide any, leaving the delivery potentially weeks or even months away. In an attempt to settle the matter, ******** offered me $300 for the missing items and $100 for the water-damaged dining room chairs. However, these amounts were far below the actual cost to repair or replace the items. Naturally, I declined these offers. I provided him with photographic evidence of the damaged nightstand and bed, yet ******** immediately accused me of falsifying the claims. The interaction quickly became frustrating, as he hung up on me several times and suggested that I have my lawyer contact him instead. I learned that this is a family-owned business with no experience handling large moves.
