August 8, 2024 To: Better Business Bureau - ********** Re: Refund the check *** in the amount of $254.19 and unfair business practices and fraud of business company ******** ************************** dba 1st Stop Self-Storage located ******************************************** ***** ************************* owner of ******* ************************** ****************** manager of 1st stop self storage ******* (****) who made business transaction with me on 07/30/2024 Greetings to Better Business Bureau California, Hope all is well. I am writing to you in regards to refunding the check #*** in the amount of $254.19. I wrote a check in the good will to 1st Stop, believing a service will be entirely provided. Unfortunately, the service was not provided at all, and didnt meet my expectations. I am asking for a refund of check #*** in the amount of $254.19 which was withdrawn from my bank checking account as a result of scam. I appreciate your understanding and help. I am disabled and a senior citizen who will be 65 years old in a few months and I receive a very small amount of disability benefit as my monthly income. I am in the process of moving to another location in August 2024 and was in the search of a storage facility to temporarily store my furniture and appliances for a few months. I stopped by 1st Stop Self-Storage company on July 30, 2024 and spoke to *******. ******* showed me storage unit #A213 (medium size 10 x 13) and we agreed on the price of $220 per month. I expressed concern that the floor in unit A213 was dirty and asked him to clean the floor before I will move my staff there. ******* promised that he will take care of the unit and I signed the contract with ******* and wrote a check #*** in the amount of $254.19 (see attached copy of the check) for the first month of August. ******* quickly scrolled down the electronic file with the contract in front of me, just focusing my attention on a few important things, such as late payment fee, the making notice of vacating the unit for at least 10 days prior to moving out and making monthly payments in person or online. That is all that ******* has informed me about the contract. He never gave a copy of the contract or explained any policies. Before leaving the office, I said to **** that I will stop by in a day or so to see if the unit was cleaned and bring my own lock to see if my lock is OK to use for unit A213. **** gave me a business card with code written by him on the card (see attached copy of card with written code). On August 3, 2024 around noon time I arrived to 1st stop self-storage location in expectation to see **** and inspect the unit and I brought my own lock to see if it fit. The door of the business was closed. Nobody answered the door. I assumed that I arrived at lunch time and didn't want to disturb the lunch of a person in the office. I dialed the access code for the gate (which ******* gave me on July 30, 2024) and saw that the gate was moving. I entered the facility on my feet and headed to unit A213. My unit was closed with a lock which belonged to a storage facility. I only checked that my own lock which I brought was OK to use and started to walk back to the office. On my way to the office, I was encountered and attacked verbally by ******************. ****************** started to insult and verbally abuse me that I am delinquent and entered a facility illegally and violated policy. He even didnt identify that I am a new tenant who already paid a deposit two days ago and an administrative fee for the access to the unit. He refused to provide his name when I was trying to ask his name. I explained to ***** that I dialed code provided to me and thus I entered the facility as a new tenant. I also mentioned that I am not aware of policy because nobody provided me with policy or explained. I only saw the telephone number on the door. ***** continued to insult me calling me a delinquent and that I followed the car. Honestly, I haven't seen any car when I dialed the code and entered the facility. ***** rudely asked me to dial the code again. Under his pressure, when he brought me to emotional distress, I dialed the number and forgot to dial the sign pound (#) in the end. He again continued to attack and insult me with remarks that I am delinquent. I am a senior citizen and disabled and was very vulnerable to insult and accusation that I violated a policy which I never received and was not aware of. The emotional distress was so extreme that I raised a voice on ******************. He gave me the notice of termination of the contract and thus how I found out his name finally (please see attached file). I am asking for a refund of my check for the stated above amount, because I detrimentally relied on the 1st Stop Self-Storage service and never received their service for which I paid in advance. I expected to move my staff there, but ***** breached the contract and refused to allow me to use the storage unit for which I paid a deposit. He exposed me to extreme financial hardship by refusing to refund my deposit in the amount of $254.19. My limited income doesn't allow me to hire another company because I live from check to check and don't have extra income because of disability. ********************** attitude towards me as thief and delinquent without first identifying that I am a new tenant caused me emotional distress that affected my health. I still cannot keep food down because of stress received from pressure and insult on behalf of ******************. I wrote an email to the owner of the company ***** ************************* and respectfully requested her to refund me $254.19 so that I can hire another company. Her employee *******, to whom I paid my deposit $254.19, refuses to provide the ***** ************************* phone number. Manager ****************** intentionally attacked me and insulted me by calling a thief who violated policy in order for him to cancel the contract and retain money. It is unjust enrichment. I have no choice but to file a complaint for this fraud and unjust enrichment by 1st Stop Self-Storage company and the loss that I experienced as victim of scam. I am asking for your assistance in resolving the issue of refund of $254.19 back to my bank checking account. Please help me with refund of money of $254.19. I know you have many things to do, and I appreciate your kindness. Hope, every kindness, you share with people will find its way back to you. Thank you in advance, ************************ **************** ******************************************* F305, ************************* **********************
