This Company was contracted through the VA to send a Nurse to my home to change his catheter bandages weekly, and to check his vitals and help us to keep him healthy and out of the hospital. She did not change them for 3 weeks in a row, causing my husband a fungal and bacterial infection. He also got pneumonia and became bedridden during this time. Since my husband is a Stage 4 Cancer patient this could have cost his life. By the time she changed his bandages he was already septic and had to spend 10 days in the hospital. The company called me and asked me what it would take to settle out of court, then proceeded to call me an extortionist and threatened to *** me for slander and libel if I should start to tell my story in public with their name attached. They said that Because my husband was already immunocompromised, and since he had been in and out of the hospital with blockages in his catheters inside that had to be cleared, that her neglect could have had negligible effect on him getting an infection. He has spent 4 years fighting cancer and the only time he has spent in the hospital prior to this was for his surgeries, and to clear blockages to his tubes inside. When she stopped changing his bandages she also stopped documenting in the booklet that she had been documenting care in. Compassionate Care Home Health Agency sent a nurse into my home that was negligent in her care of my husband, asked me to put a price on the trauma we all suffered watching him go from ambulatory and healing to bedridden and dying, then threatened to *** us for extortion without us ever having filed a lawsuit.
