    I received an estimate for work to perform some mold remediation in a home I had purchased. They came and gave an estimate that noted it would require 5-days and many hours of labor and materials for repair of two small areas in a laundry room and dining room. I agreed to the estimate understanding that it was an estimate and that costs could go higher or lower depending on the final scope of work. The estimate was for the same amount invoiced.

    The issue is that the estimate Listed the following hours of labor required to perform the task and they were only in the house for 1-1/2 - 2-1/2 days so there is no way it could have taken this much time unless they were there 24/7 and there were only 2 guys for a max of 8 hours per day.
    o Painter – 6 hours – painting was not required as the whole house is being repainted so this should not apply.
    o Drywall Tech – 24 hours – there were only two small areas where drywall was replaced and I know it didn’t require 24 hours to complete as it was accomplished in 1-day. Now, had they looked further, as I told them they could, they would have found mold on the sheetrock behind the lower cabinets in the laundry room which would have required much more time, maybe as much as 24 hours, but I had to pay my contractor for those repairs. The repairs completed required maybe one sheet of sheetrock.
    o Mold Workers – 48 hours – knowing that they did not work more than 8 hours a day (max) and that they were only in the house 2-1/2 days, I am wondering how you come up with this number? The maximum number of hours worked was 32 man hours but given the guys doing this work also did the drywall work there is no way there was a combined 72 hours of work.

    I emailed the owner asking him to please review the charges on the invoice prior to paying it as I believed it to be unfair but wanted to give him a chance to review it and adjust accordingly. He refused

    The estimate that was provided and signed by Mr. **** was a Lump sum estimate.With that being said we have and come to a conclusion. We have revised the invoice to reflect only the amount of hours worked. Mr. **** excepted this resolution.
