    On 10/20/23 I hired Coleman Carpet Cleaners to come and steam clean my carpet and sofa. They came and accomplished the job in 90 minutes, but did not provide an estimate prior to beginning work (even though I requested one.) I decided to let them work anyway, and was shocked when I received an invoice the following week for $1,245.60.

    They charged me $960 to steam clean my large sofa. This is 2.5 times the HIGHEST local rate, and I would never have agreed to this in advance. I believe that their act of NOT providing an estimate was intentional ... and then they sent me a RIDICULOUS bill just hoping that I would be foolish or embarrassed enough to pay.

    I am mailing them my payment today - $700 - which I believe is a fair (even generous) price for both the carpet and the sofa cleaning. They have not YET had a chance to respond, they have not yet received my letter, but I wanted the BBB to know that they did NOT give an estimate and then sent a shocking bill. Again, I suspect that practice is intentional - what established service business does not arrive at the front door with a form on a clipboard for the consumer to sign ?

    And yes, I did call them to ask (1) is this bill a typo ? and (2) I requested a more reasonable reduced charge and the owner had his receptionist call me and offer me a 10% reduction. I informed the receptionist that this was an inadequate remedy.

    All details are included in my attached letter (which, again, won't be received by them, along with my check, for a few more days.)

    Just FYI ... I made my payment in person on 11/01/2023, so as not to risk it getting lost in the mail and to provide the business with prompt notice of my dispute, and the check has now been deposited and cashed through my checking account.
