We hired SD Smart Engineering for low-voltage work based on their multiple initial quote, which was competitive with other vendors we considered. They assured us repeatedly that they could complete the work efficiently and within budget. We were upfront about comparing quotes and even provided a video walkthrough of our space to avoid unexpected costs since they refused to do an in-person evaluation. On the first day of the job, they showed up unprepared and spent hours shopping for materials at **********, billing us for that wasted time. They couldnt finish the work and had to return the next day. We were already worried about the rising costs, so we considered skipping the last room to save money. They convinced us it would only take an extra hour, but instead, they damaged a part of the property that wasnt even part of the plan. They had to do a temporary fix, which added more time. They promised to fix the drywall damage right away, but we had to chase them down to get it done, and they even tried to charge us for it before finally agreeing to fix it for ******* the end, their final bill was twice the original quote. Even after we raised concerns, their revised pricing was still way over budget. We tried to negotiate, but they pressured us into settling on a price we werent happy with. The owner even called my brother directly to push us into agreeing, which felt very unprofessional. What bothers us most is they questioned our lower quotes from other vendors, claiming their years of experience made their pricing accurate. Yet they baited us with a low quote, only to inflate the final cost by double. If we knew they were going to do this, we wouldve stuck with our original vendor who offered a flat rate for materials and labor and charged way less.Their pricing practices were deceptive, and we felt like they pulled the rug out from under us.
