I'm a former Senior Instructor @ X** College near *** Airport. I worked there over 6 years and had experience with *********************** Additionally, I worked as an X** *********************** affiliated with this school for 4 years, ending in 20XX. I write today because it has come to my attention (from multiple sources) that at least 1 teacher at Loyola Marymount University (Westchester ** Campus) has a unique form of grading policy.....To wit: 1) Once a grade for the course has been determined, the student is subjected to a hidden grading process - details of which the teacher keeps to themselves which is based on determining student participation... 2) The teacher is not compelled by superiors to disclose this method of "second level" grading...Even after the matter is escalated internally by the student using the University's grievance process.. 3) It took at least 1 student complaint to bring this matter out in the open, making it clear that this "second level" secret grading policy - which isn't disclosed in any class syllabus or other public accessible document - is being upheld by superiors during the internal grievance process.... 4) That it is a matter of fact, that in the situation that drove this writing - we are discussing an occasion where 1 student received an ****, dropping this student out of a 4.0 average - breaking a some 13 year record! I should think any grading policy can have a margin of error small enough for an **** to be at least adjusted to **** - which was at least a matter of policy at my former college job to round off grade to next highest whole number - which would be a 90, with no negative ramifications. This center for higher education has a long and distinguished history. It's a pity that at least one faculty member appears to be *****.
