I paid **** dollars up front, sight unseen, for this Sober Living Design by Recovery , via Venmo. Was told no credit cards. ***** was to a name only , not a business. Was told one bed left only. Facility shown as a sober living facility. This place said they would pick him up from his rehab in Ventura. Which they did. We were told this was a sober living facility by the owner. We did not unload any luggage or sleep there as the place was unclean, holes in fence in back, filthy kitchen/bathroom,bedroom had a bunkbed where my son was to sleep on top bunk with a client who had mental issues and spoke and **** to himself repeatedly and was sleeping in the same bottom bunk. None of this was disclosed to us or transparent up front. We needed a therapeutic environment for my son after his rehab and high pressure since told one bed only, so took this place without seeing. My son also has lower back issues and sleeping on a small bunk bed in a small room with a client with serious mental health issues not appropriate place for transition after rehab. None of this was explained ahead. We were instructed o pay the **** with ***** prior to my son being picked up. After seeing the unclean condition of the inside and outside of place and kitchen unclean and small bedroom with bunkbed, I explained to owner this was not therapeutic for my son and requested to leave that late afternoon and receive a refund. Was given high pressure to stay or go to one of their other facilities even though not near to the therapy . No cooperation or understanding why my son could not stay. My son did not sleep there, use their facility, sat in the back yard with a fence in disrepair and felt uncomfortable in the unclean environment. The owner refused to give my **** back. After explaining hardship to pay that amount for a few hours and need another sober living. We waited an entire week before **** was returned . No services were offered.

******* was given a 50% refund.  She was told in advance what the refund policy was.  Its a total exaggeration of whats shes describing.  Many men have found sobriety at Design for Recovery.

I am rejecting this response because:

the refund for 50 percent was if my son stayed at this facility and left during program . He did not stay overnight , received no services , no full disclosure re sleeping arrangements in bunk bed or lack of cleanliness or upkeep , no cost was lost except for pick up from passages to facility which we would pay for . No written agreement was signed and verbally , I understood if he left during his stay there in middle of month we would lose money for rent , it is unreasonable and punitive holding **** dollars for several hours where my fob son was in an unclean and crowded and uncomfortable facility which was not disclosed . No money was lost by facility , no overnight . No living in this place at all and my son is a different sober living which is much more conducive , clean , environment . So question is not whether clients do well or not here . It's keeping a very large amount of money for no reason and poor communication as no one would ever believe that rent money for a month would be partially refunded after a few hours . High pressure sales and unscrupulous business holding that amount of money when environment was poor . My son left and is currently in a sober living which he is thriving in . He did not leave due to quitting program .it is a financial hardship paying **** for services not rendered and unfair business practice . Leaving sober living after paying month for reasons such as not following rules or not maintaining sobriety is fair . But this was not the case . In the interest of supporting sobriety etc , I understand this is s profit business model : but very unfair in this situation as taking advantage of a family financially when no cost lost plus my son already in sober living from day 1 and recovering well . This feels punitive and unfair business practice

      Sincerely,
