We paid this business $1,000 to edit my manuscript, format the manuscript afterwards, and publish it on a few major platforms. This was listed in their $1,000 plan. The very first issue I ever had was with respect to the editing process. I was asked if I would like the team to change some wording around to make the book sound a little more sophisticated and entertaining. I didn't know what they had in store, so I agreed. When my document was returned, there were a MYRIAD of spelling errors INTRODUCED into the document, and sentences were changed to mean something entirely antithetical to the original meaning. In other words, they butchered my document. We immediately skipped to the formatting phase. This phase took MONTHS, because each time I requested SIMPLE formats (like a change in the positioning of an image to the left some, or even things as simple as pressing enter to create a space between text, they would NOT follow these instructions at all. They also continued to make changes to my text when I explicitly told them not to do so since we were done with "editing" (because they butchered everything), which included them misspelling the title of my Chapter 1 within the table of contents AND the title page of Chapter 1 (if that makes sense), changing periods to commas, commas to periods, eliding entire words, etc. My manuscript was PERFECT when it went in, and AWFUL when it came out, riddled with apertures and errors. Later on, we started to work on a book cover, wherein they also formatted the book title and author title on the spine upside down, which I have JUST now noticed on my end with the book in my hand. Finally, the most egregious of all, months after we paid them $1,000, they attempted to charge us $2,000 more to get the finalized manuscript published on the major platforms they explicitly stated they would publish to within the $1,000 package. We already paid for this, so why do we need to pay more?I have all email threads saved, if needed.
