On June 27th, 2024 I walked into the Mammoth Hospital ***************** with wrist pain. I identified myself as a Veteran and was informed they could not accept VA insurance without a referral. I then stated I would Self-Pay and asked how much that would be. I was presented with the amount of $127.40 and paid it at the conclusion of my visit. To my complete surprise I received a bill for an additional amount of $237.60. I inquired in person as to why at their billing department and was informed that a mistake had been made on their part. I both did not agree to this amount ($365 in total) at the time of the appointment and signed nothing approving this amount. I was presented a self-pay price and I paid it. That is the whole point of self-pay; that theres no insurance involved and Im paying upfront. I am not paying for a mistake that I didnt make. My business with Mammoth Hospital is therefore concluded and I expect to receive no further correspondence from them.

      Business Response

      Date: 08/16/2024

Upon investigation of this complaint, it was determined that the patient was given a good faith estimate prior to service.  Unfortunately, the complexity of the treatment was higher than what was used for the estimate.  There is no way to know for sure what any patient will need in their visits until the provider has assessed the patient.   There was no mistake made. The patient estimate document includes a disclaimer saying: This hospital estimate is not a guarantee of final billed charges or what your final out-of-pocket expense will be.   We apologize this was not made clear to the patient.  Considering this situation, we will write off the balance of this patients bill for this visit.  We wish the patient well and apologize for the stress of this situation.

We would like to make a correction to our previous response. We realized that the disclaimer noted in our original response was only visible to staff, the correct disclaimer is contained below:
