      Moorpark College’s public commitment to “diversity, equity, and inclusion” is nothing but hollow branding. Vulnerable student populations are not protected or supported here.
      My experience at Moorpark College has been traumatic. I’m not someone who enjoys filing complaints and grievances. I tried to resolve the issue informally—multiple times—with no response or remedy. Asking didn’t work. Trying to have discussions didn’t work.
      I was forced to file a grievance. Every word I said was mischaracterized and weaponized against me. I was told by the district (VCCCD) that what happened to me was my fault. If you are mistreated at Moorpark College, the blame will be placed onto you, as the entire “grievance” process is designed to protect the institution.
      The process has also been plagued by intentional, strategic delays. The original decision was delayed for 45 days for a vague, nonspecific reason. Then, after filing an appeal at the state level (which was accepted), the district decided to wait a month to email relevant documents to the state (which they were already in possession of). Delay, delay, delay, and hopefully the student shuts up.
      Moorpark College is dedicated to shutting out student voices and ignoring their concerns in an attempt to protect their public image. The mental health of students, the equal opportunity of students, and the belonging of students do not matter here.
