I am writing to formally express my deep concerns regarding the use of AI detection systems, such as Turnitin, within academic institutions. While intended to uphold academic integrity, these systems are flawed and frequently produce false positives, unfairly accusing honest students of *********** a student with a high level of intellectual capability, I have experienced wrongful accusations of plagiarism and AI-generated content despite submitting original, ethically produced work. For example, I maintained a consistent writing style throughout a quarter but was flagged with a 28% AI-generated content alert on a final report, even though it was entirely my own work. This not only undermines the trust between students and educators but also penalizes diligent students who choose to engage in traditional academic practices rather than using AI tools. The widespread reliance on AI detection creates a two-tier system where cheaters who manipulate AI tools might avoid detection, while ethical students are unjustly scrutinized. This has resulted in significant frustration and demotivation, ultimately forcing me to reconsider my educational path and return to self-study rather than endure an unfair system. Moreover, many educators lack sufficient understanding of how these detection tools function, leading to misguided accusations and disciplinary actions. The current AI detection practices negatively impact student morale, academic freedom, and the overall integrity of education.I urge academic institutions and relevant regulatory bodies to review and improve the implementation of AI detection systems to ensure fairness, transparency, and accuracy. Until then, these systems continue to damage student trust and the educational experience.Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Subject: Formal Complaint Against Turnitin for AI Detection Technology: FERPA and *** *********** ********** Advertising, and Future Accusation Concerns To Whom It May ********* am writing to file a formal complaint against Turnitin regarding their AI writing detection technology. This complaint specifically addresses potential violations of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act ****** along with misleading advertising and concerns over future accusations. The dates of the relevant transactions and communications range from November 20, 2023 - December 21, 2023.Nature of the Dispute:Turnitin's AI detector flagged my work as potentially AI-written, leading to an unwarranted academic integrity investigation. Though this was later resolved, the ongoing risk of future false accusations remains a significant concern.FERPA Violations:Turnitin's AI detection process lacks transparency and student access to educational records, which is potentially in violation of FERPA. Students should have the right to review and contest any educational records, including AI detection reports, which directly impact their academic standing.*** Violations:The AI detection technology does not adequately accommodate students with disabilities, such as PTSD, which I suffer from. The stress induced by false accusations and the secretive nature of the process can exacerbate such mental health conditions, contrary to the provisions of the ***.Concerns about Future Accusations:The technologys ability to retroactively analyze submissions creates a continuous risk of being accused of academic dishonesty, even post-graduation. This ongoing uncertainty is stressful and unfair, particularly for students with mental health challenges.********** Advertising Regarding False Positives:Turnitin advertises a 1% false positive rate, potentially creating a false sense of accuracy and trust among educators. This can lead to overreliance on technology and insufficient scrutiny of its results, increasing the risk of harm to students through erroneous flagging.Request for Resolution:I request the Better Business Bureau to investigate Turnitin's AI detection technology for its potential FERPA and *** violations, misleading advertising, and the implications of future accusations on students. It is crucial that educational technologies comply with legal standards and consider the well-being and rights of all students, especially those with disabilities.Your prompt attention to this matter is essential in ensuring responsible use of educational technologies and in protecting student rights.Thank you for your time and consideration.Sincerely,*************************** ******************** ************* ********************************
