I was referred to *************************- KickStart O&P in April 2022 to make a ****** brace for my 11 year old daughter with scoliosis. **** made the brace and we were instructed that she wear the brace for 18 hours a day. On April 29th my daughter went for an X-ray with the brace on and there was no difference with her spinal curve in the brace. We made another appointment with ************************* to adjust the brace so that it would be effective. **** made adjustments and at the start of June my daughter went for another X-ray in the brace and her spinal curve was worse and she was in more pain. My daughters MD said it was time to go to a new orthotist and get a new brace which we did and her new brace is effective and works. I then stated getting bills for $2221.40 from Kickstart O&P that I have told him I will not pay. I refuse to pay for a brace that made my daughters curve worse and caused her pain. I plan on making an official complaint as well. I was not provided with a brace that did what it was supposed to do even after going back to **** for alterations.

I am rejecting this response because:  The reply was not accurate.  I agree that protocols were followed from time of evaluation until my daughter was provided the brace that **** made. There were some alterations made to the brace at the follow up appointment approx a month after getting the brace because it was rubbing on my daughters skin and this was uncomfortable.

The problem began after my daughters first **ray in the brace. By this time she had been wearing the brace 18 hours a day. I could not see the results of the **ray initially and I was told by my daughters MD at ****** that there had been no change in my daughters curve and he recommended that I take my daughter back to **** to have the brace adjusted. I did supply **rays at that time because **** would not be able to make the corrections without them. We did follow up with **** for another appointment and he adjusted the brace again. I followed up with another **ray and it was then that MD at ****** told me that it was time for a new Orthotist and a new brace. I do not know about any conversations between the MD and *********

My daughter was complaining of pain and being really uncomfortable in the brace so I agreed with ****** MD and I made the appointment to a clinic that MD at ****** recommended. In the mean time, **** (Kickstart) requested $2199 for the brace that they had made. I let them know that ****** had a new brace and that I would not be paying for the brace as it did not do what it was intended to do and created unnecessary pain for my daughter along with wasting several months of time and delaying the correct brace for my daughter. I was told that I should of brought my daughter back into **** to adjust again. How many times should I have brought my daughter in for a brace that was causing problems. I also supplied messages between myself and ****** MD where he recommended new brace and Orthotist and copies of the **rays so Kickstart had them. They have failed to acknowledge their brace did not work and ***** adjustment just made things worse.

Initially I did want a resolution to the brace and did offer to pay $733 towards it for Tonys time but shortly after I discovered that the last **ray my daughter had, the ******************* made actually made my daughters curve worse and it went from 33 degrees to 40+ degrees when she had the brace on. I am refusing to pay anything for the brace. I have also let ****** know about my experience so that they do not continue to refer to Kickstart. They are only concerned about collecting their money for the brace and do not care that they caused more harm to my daughter. They expect to be paid for a defective brace. Why would I pay for something that harmed and caused pain to my child. She is now in a brace that is working well and I am very happy with the care she is getting outside of Kickstart.

    Sincerely,

    *************************
