Steve Smith ****************** Steve Smith Autosports, *** and their affiliates Kenwood Property Management, ***. & American General Maintenance, ***. all under the same ownership operate a shady property management company with a pattern of bad faith charges to tenants in an attempt to retain the security deposit illegally. *******************, the property manager, repeatedly attempted to enforce improper charges against my security deposit. First, she attempted to charge me for "dents" in a set of very old miniblinds that were identified as needing to be replaced several times during my tenancy. The blinds were not replaced and she attempted to charge me for "dents" that existed in them when I moved it. The prior tenants left an older washer and dryer set for me to use and *****, with no verbal or written warning at the pre-inspection, sent me an email saying they needed to be removed that day or they would remove them and charge me for the removal against my security deposit. I had moved out a week earlier. Finally, she sent a vague invoice from their maintenance company charging me $130 for performing the following work "clean oven, clean 2 miniblinds". I had the house professionally cleaned and detailed at my own expense and went back to personally do a very detailed cleaning of the oven, given her threats. Given her prior threats I took many close up photos of the condition of the oven, windows, walls, floors and the property. I prepared a demand letter prior to filing a claim in small claims court. ******************************************** Smith *********** repeatedly violate the laws governing property management practices and exploit their tenants who are often college students (see yelp reviews). This behavior is calculated and intentional. When confronted with the law, her response is glib and superficial, in keeping with the traits of a con artist who finds it entertaining to dupe others and just as funny to get caught. She is on to the next game of "duper's delight".
