Avoid if you have more than one conversion. This review is for Legacy Digital Productions based out of ******, **. *********************** likes to claim that bad reviews are for Legacy Box.I had them convert super 8mm to 2K digital. Sent them one 3 reel as a test to convince my father to send the rest. The quality was good enough to send the remaining 29 reels of 3 & 4 sizes.Their website claims to provide Multiple File Formats and I asked about getting the highest quality format. He responded that they send flies in only MP4. For the Advanced grain *****************edit to adjust I am not sure they did much.Main reasons for avoiding Legacy Digital Productions.1.The biggest reason is that THEY LOST 2 OF THE ****** They claim to not have more than one project out at a time. Looked everywhere & contacted other clients they were working on at the same time. ***** then blamed the postal carrier and followed with that they were there and I lost them. I only wanted my reels back nothing else, no refunds or discounts 2.They dont take the care youd expect for a company dealing with memories. Sent to them in bubble wrap, returned in same box with a little bit of paper & the flash drive taped to the side of the box.3.NO communication from them. Only when they get your package & when they send it back are the only times that you may receive a call. I had to inquire about updates.4.I question their knowledge of technology. As an apology for the lost reels he sent a 1TB potable hard disk drive (HHD) with my files on it ($50). To quote ***** backup of your files on the most reliable drive on the market (that I know of).. An HHD is currently not the most reliable drive today, a solid state drive (SSD) is several times more reliable than an HHD.They are a mid level/price service for conversions and if you are not worried about your original content being returned then they will be fine. If you value your precious memories then look elsewhere.

    Dear ****,

I sincerely regret your unsatisfactory experience and apologize for the two reels you mentioned are missing.  I've also added a couple steps to our workflow because this happened to make certain that we will not be responsible for it happening in the future.

Just know this.  We do care. And we do and have always made efforts to protect our clients memories and make certain that they are returned safely and in-tact.  We absolutely understand the importance of these gems. Inside the shop we treat them as if they were our own.  And while it isn't acceptable to us, you are only the second client of over ****** clients to report such a loss to us since 2001.

Per our standard operating procedures we receive our clients *****, usually via *** or ****** reels and video and audio tapes are counted and labeled/numbered and added to a work order.   ********* is then shelved and each and every client's materials are stored separately.

When we process projects, reels and tapes are processed in numerical order, and checked off.  Our transfer experts, myself included, only work on one clients ***** at a time per station.  We've been doing this for decades and this is the best way to keep things from getting mixed up.  Only one customers ***** is allowed at any scanning station at any one time, even if this means it slows production.  Safety is always more important than speed.  When the capture is complete the items are packaged and placed in their appropriate storage area while editing and the final product is checked by a supervisor.

Regarding communication, yes, it is true that our clients wont hear from us too often.  We will usually contact the client when things are received to go over the inventory.   Only if issues arise during the conversion process will we disturb our clients.  Otherwise, well usually only contact them when were done to let them know and collect any balances due.  And as you stated, we are always available by phone if there are any questions or updated needed by our clients.

Now, let me share the new steps we've added with the intent of enhancing our processes, and checks.  Again, this is only the second time in over 20 years with over ****** clients served that anyone has reported missing *****.

    NEW:
    Pre-Process:
    1) We've added a project ID to the item numbers.

    Post-Process:
    1) Upon completion inventory is reviewed by a second person to make sure everything is accounted for.

    2) All ***** is checked by one team member and then a supervisor with double signatures to verify all ***** is included.

****, I can't say it enough.  We do care about you and your *****.  We care about all of our clients and their *****.  We are a small business and we do some of the best work in the industry.  Even *********** producers entrusted his childhood films with us.  We take pride in this fact.

With that said, and while it is still unacceptable that reels went missing, we are glad that you were happy enough with the quality of our work on the test reel that you had us convert the rest of your families film.  We're also glad that the ***** from the reels that appear to be missing were also included and not lost.

The grain reduction and scene by scene color correction did enhance your images quite a bit.  Before and after comparisons show significant improvement.

With regards to the second drive and copy of the converted *****.  We sent this to you, free of charge, as a courtesy, and gesture of good faith, in an attempt to make up for what went wrong.

Regarding SSD vs spinning drives, both drive types have benefits and faults. You can find a report by BackBlaze who has a mixture of over a quarter-million drives online.  SSD's are not multiple times more reliable than spinners. In fact, SSDs have a higher tendency to break down with age vs. a spinning disk.  Since you already had a flash drive, I sent the *** (spinning drive) so that youd be able to take advantage of the strength of both.

In summary ****, I do want to sincerely apologize for the reels going missing. I dont know how it happened but if they turn up Ill make certain to return them to you im*****tely.

    Sincerely,
    *****

PS.  The other reviews where we claim to be for the company LegacyBox are in fact for them (or at least they werent for us).  Over the years there have been many reviews removed by folks because after a conversation they realized that we are a different company.  In fact, many of these people end up becoming clients - and happy clients at that, because they have us redo what they considered to be sub-par work.  Unfortunately - and fortunately - if you ****** "LegacyBox Yelp" youll see that were #1 - and that attracts a lot of angry folks to leave reviews on the wrong profile.  Don't believe me though...  Look at their BBB page under Southtree in ********* (They are the same company that also operates as Today Digitizing and Legacy Box.) and youll see what I mean.
