Received a collections notice in the mail (1st letter ever received) for two covid tests I had back in 2022 from Medlabs2020. According to California law (senate bill 510) covid tests are to be free and or covered by insurance wholly. I was on my moms plan at the time. I have great credit that I have worked very hard on and I pay all of my bills. This however I do not feel justified in paying. It is a total scam. I called my insurance and they used my social security to track the dates they listed and nothing came up in their system as a visit. And they are charging me directly $595. They state something about a check in the mail but I have never received a check in the mail from my insurance and they didnt even have anything on record for the requested dates with my social security number so I am confused. All avenues online are pointing towards this being a money grabbing scam but using the word collections has me worried as I am an upstanding citizen who wants to strive for perfect credit. Please help me and tell me what to do here. Due to it being a final notice - copied to legal and collections team letter has me thinking this is urgent.

MEDLAB2020 has continued to send me bills and threatening notices - threatening attorneys, collection and lawsuits over $623.46. I have requested proof of services rendered, where I agreed to pay for the Covid Tests (which I didn't because it was advertised as free) Also, they claim my insurance company mailed me checks and they have proof of these checks. I paid the $623.46 to avoid a lawsuit from this company. However, I am requesting 1. proof of services rendered, dates times and signatures. and 2. Proof of these checks being issued and cashed. If they cannot prove either of these things, legally they have to refund my money in full and clear this false account.

I had COVID in August of 2024 and had to be tested. I paid the required fee at the time of testing ($149.00). Did not receive any follow-up billing from the provider, nor did my insurance company receive a claim. I have a high deductible plan and, at this point in 2021, I had reached my out-of-pocket maximum for the year. Fast-forward to September of 2023: I get an EOB from my insurance company for a doctor that I've never heard of with a service date of September 6, 2021. I called my insurance company and they said there was no information on the claim to say what service was performed. I never received a bill from the named doctor. Jump to November of 2023: I got another EOB from my insurance company for the same doctor. This time, the date matches the date of my COVID test. My insurance company advised me to wait and see if I receive a bill and to dispute it at that time. Never got a bill from that doctor. Today (7/24/24), I received an EOB from my insurance company for Medlab2020 in the amount of $300.00 for services rendered in August of 2021. My insurance company denied the claim as untimely filed. I have not yet received a bill from this company but, if I do, I intend to fight tooth and nail to get the bill written off. There is NO excuse for waiting 2-3 years before seeking payment for a medical service, unless that purpose is fraudulent.
