Date of Service 6/6/23. Pest control, standard service for ants, spiders , mice/rats. SVPC came out, knew we had pets and put poison rat boxes in our yard that they said we "pet proof" and "harmless to pets". We called SVPC on 6/10 telling them our Doberman had gotten a rat box in our yard. I called SVPC, they said it was not possible, they were "pet proof". SVPC came out, again my husband expressed concern about our pets, again SVPC said this treatment was harmless to dogs and pets. They secured the box on 6/13 and our dog pulled it up again. We took it out of out yard, but a couple of days later there was another rat box we did not know of. My husband pulled it out. A day later my husband took our Doberman to the ** Vet on Father's **** 6/18, because he noticed she was not herself. The ** Vet told him it appeared the dog had eaten rat poison and would have to be put down; internal bleeding, and she was in pain, no brain activity. A few hours later my daughter found our cat at the neighbors in distress She picked him up he urinated on her and had blood in his urine. Took him to the same ** Vet, again, he had rat poison in his system and had to be put down. SVPC refuses to except responsibility, says "Ditrac" weather boxes are harmless to pets and this hasn't happened to them in 30 years. They killed two of our pets with no "I'm sorry" , no acceptance of responsibility, and refusal to pay our $2200 vet bills. They have ignored my requests. I have sent them the ** report and bills. They wanted a toxicology report, we did not have one done, the Vet said it was obvious what killed them, not to go to the expense of the report. SVBC has no concern for their customers. Rat boxes should not be placed in yards where there are pets. The same week this happened, there were numerous reports of missing cats and cats that had been poisoned. I have spoken to other pest companies, 3 to be exact. None of them use rat poison, the use traps. Please help! *****

      Business Response

      Date: 08/09/2023

While we are very sorry for the loss of *********************************** pets and have expressed that numerous times during our conversations it is our understanding of the situation that Sonoma Valley Pest Control is not the cause.  In over thirty years being in business we have never to our knowledge had a cat ingest our bait.  While we have had a couple of instances where a dog has ingested our bait they haven been taken to the veterinarian and been given the antidote and lived.  The antidote to anticoagulant rodenticide is vitamin K1, a prescription drug. This can be given via injection or by mouth to increase the vitamin K1 levels in the body and prevent bleeding.  When ************************* called and said her dog was sick and may have ingested rat bait our Licensed Branch II Technician advised her of the antidote to request from the veterinarian.  No antidote was given and both pets were put down.  We did request toxicology reports and Diphacinone was not present in either animal which is the active ingredient in our bait.  As a courtesy we did issue a credit for the cost of the rodent clean out in the amount of $250.00 on June 19, 2023.
