I called Steve Beaton to repair a main water leak. The previous plumber/ located estimated the leak within a 8 ft area near the outside of the house going into the foundation. I as a property owner and not a professional plumber was hoping it wasn't under the foundation as it couldn't be pinpointed to an exact 1 ft area. After Steve's crew did some air and water tests he diagnosed it to be leaking under the foundation. When the applied air to the pipe I and Steve noticed air bubbles outside the foundation. Instead of digging 6 inches down there, he decided to tear my walls open and have me and one of his workers dig around in a completely different area. After a couple of hours of myself and his laborer digging another worker showed up and I told him about the bubbles. He immediately went over to that area and dug it up under the grass and found the leak, I asked him if it made that much sense to him to look there first, why hadn't the owner Steve done it. He stated to me he was alot smarter with these things and don't worry well take care of it. So they repaired the leak and fixed their mistakes in the was that weren't justified and left. They didn't put the walls back together, they didn't fill in the giant holes and trenches and just left with their tails between their legs in shame of not doing the job correctly from the beginning. I asked for the bill from Steve and he told me he'd fix it to reflect. Next day I get a non detailed bill of services for $4200.00. 10 times the cost of the repair if they would have went straight to the leak as their own laborer did when he arrived. I feel I shouldn't have to pay for their mistakes and they also charged me for clean up and refilling holes and the trench which they didnt!

      Business Response

We responded to referral from another company that detects leaks because we do not have the instruments to do that work. They detected the leak inside the house and marked it with an X. Before we performed any extensive work inside like jackhammering his floors, we did a rather extensive diagnosis on the whole house which did include opening up walls. We ended up determining and finding the leak outside. Unfortunately for Don the responding company did misdiagnose the leak and it ended costing him $4200 for our time and materials used. Fortunately for Don we did not jackhammer up his floor like many other companies would do, costing him at least twice as much as we charged him. Don is upset understandably, but he is upset with the wrong company. Best of luck Don.

I am rejecting this response because: I did not get an itemized bill stating what the actual work and costs were for the "work" done. They also charged me for filling holes and cleaning up which they did not do. The bill is misleading by not justifying the actual labor done by their team, furthermore they were gone from the property for hours driving their Co worker home and going to another site due to them forgetting their materials needed to complete the job, but yet I get charged for 4200.00 for 1 guy doing 2 hours of work. As far as the other company misdiagnosis Steve spoke with the other company and told them they weren't at fault. Since this ive spoken to other plumbing companies who have told me that any decent plumber would have dug where the bubbles were showing and not start tearing the house apart, their own worker took 10 minutes to diagnose the leak outside the house,. I not only feel that they were at fault for not doing their job as a plumber but that the bill was unbelievably high and unwarranted seeing that I as the home owner did work that they charged me for.
