On March 20, 2025, I signed a $48,290 contract with Designs 4 You (D4U) for a kitchen design and remodel. We met with their assigned designer at my homewho, despite being presented as a *** employee, turned out to be a subcontractor. We spent about 90 minutes reviewing materials. Although we had already found a cabinet style we liked, the designer dismissed it without consideration. We later located a manufacturer in ************* that sold the cabinets, but they required pickup. *** refused due to liability concerns. Other vendors we contacted either required installation (which D4U would not allow) or didnt meet D4Us specifications. I spent approximately three weeks searching for cabinets, a task I expected the contractor to manage since that's what a general contractor is supposed to do.On April 10, the designer sent a rendering that featured the wrong cabinets, omitted appliances, and incorrectly showed stone on the walls. We never received a corrected version. I also requested a quote for the stone we preferred but received no *********** May 9, frustrated with the lack of support and communication, I emailed the project manager and *** to terminate the contract. At that point, demolition had not started, and the project was not scheduled to begin until June 10. I was informed by the owner that I would owe $12,890 to cancelcovering the first progress payment (though its milestone hadnt been completed) of $4290 plus 20% of the remaining contract.Despite receiving an inaccurate rendering, I was asked to pay the full design fee. The designer even admitted the rendering was incorrect and I never received an updated corrected rendering. I offered to let D4U keep my $1,000 deposit and pay an additional $500 in good faith, but the issue now appears to be headed for mediation or arbitration.

    To Whom it May Concern:

We are writing in response to the complaint submitted by Mr. ****************** team has provided Mr. ********** with documentation supporting the scope and progress of the work completed. He received multiple design iterations featuring various cabinet styles, and we also shared the designers invoice totaling $4,000.
Per the terms of our agreement, there is a clearly stated cancellation clause requiring a fee of 20% of the remaining progress payments should a client choose to cancel the project. We have requested that Mr. ********** remit payment for the material selection phase, which has already been completed. Additionally, we have expressed our willingness to negotiate the cancellation fee in good faith.
Despite our continued efforts to resolve the matter amicablyincluding several email exchanges and the timely provision of all requested informationMr. ********** has declined to pay and indicated his intent to involve legal counsel.
At this stage, we respectfully request payment for the material selection and remain open to discussing a reasonable resolution regarding the cancellation fee. We kindly ask for your guidance on how to proceed with this matter.

    Sincerely,

    Designs 4 You

Regarding the comment about "receiving multiple iterations with multiple designs" is simply not correct.  We received one design under the kitchen remodel agreement and that didn't accurately reflect our kitchen and it didn't use the cabinets we wanted to use.  If I pay that progress payment then the contract states I am agreeing that all work is done to my satisfaction and it was not done to my satisfaction, let alone being charged $4000 for one incorrect design rendering and 90 minutes of countertop shopping.  Second, we asked the designer for quotes for the countertop and never received them.

Regarding the statement "Additionally, we have expressed our willingness to negotiate the cancellation fee in good faith.", this is a partial false statement. The contractor said in an email the remain available to a productive conversation."  My response to that in an email between the two of us was:

"Regarding resolving this matter, I've made at least two different
proposals that you have turned down, yet I haven't heard anything
from you other than that I owe $12,890.  It takes two sides to
negotiate and it seems like I've been the only one presenting
    offers and trying."

I have never received any sort of good faith negotiated offer.  Only, as I've said, a demand for $12890.  I have to be honest. In addition, paying $4000 for one rendering that doesn't even reflect an accurate design of my kitchen seems like a blatant misrepresentation of what would be provided.  Again, I'm happy to hear any offer for a settlement, but I have yet to hear anything from Designs 4 You regarding a counter offer of a settlement.

Thank you for the response. We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to address your concerns directly.

While we respectfully disagree with some of your characterizations, we understand that clear communication is essential in resolving this matter. Our intent has always been to find a fair and amicable resolution.
To move forward constructively and bring closure to this matter, we are willing to settle the outstanding balance for a total payment of $9,000. This amount will cover both the material selection progress payment and the cancellation-related costs, and would be considered payment in full, with no further obligations on either side. This amount represents a significant reduction from the original balance of $12,890 and reflects our willingness to close this matter without further delay.

If this offer is agreeable to you, please confirm in writing so we can provide a formal settlement agreement and close out the account accordingly.
We look forward to resolving this in good faith and putting the matter behind us.

    Sincerely,

    Designs 4 You

Hired to rebuild a retaining wall and a set of small stairs for $17,000. Ended up with a bill of $18,950. Negligence in Utility Locating: They failed to call the city to locate utilities before beginning excavation, which lead to damaging the main waterline.Unethical Behavior: They attempted to hide the pipe damage. To fix the issue, an amendment was introduced we were to pay for and leave a 5 start review.Deceptive Sales: During sales visit representatives ****** and **** used high-pressure tactics to coerce us into signing a contract immediately. They made claims about a 15-year warranty on their concrete work, yet to receive.Misrepresentation of Services: Despite explicit request for a plaster wall finish, they misled us into accepting a stucco finish. My husband was deceived into signing an amendment for stucco under the false pretense that it was standard practice to use plaster under stucco, and call it stucco. This added +$. No ********************* Our complaints were met with dismissive and rude responses from ****** and ****. Tal, a new representative, suggested abandoning the project, provided we pay for the work already done. Without the updated price breakdown, we were left at their mercy regarding the amount they demanded, making it impossible for us to terminate their services. Lack of Project Oversight: We spend considerable time overseeing the work due to complete lack of project management. We sourced materials such as grout, which was not part of the contract.Unfinished Work: The project was left incomplete with construction debris and unfinished stucco. Despite reminders, they failed to address our outstanding issues and instead are placing a lien on our property for an unpaid balance, which we are disputing due to the unresolved complaints.Aggressive Communication: Interactions with Tal and **** were unprofessional, aggressive, and disrespectful, particularly when we sought clarification on our complaints and contract terms.

On July 31, 2023 I contracted Designs4You to install an entryway gate and archway fence. (Please see attached design render.) Because the project was deemed so small as to not meet their $5000 minimum, walkway pavers were added to the project for a total of $5119. The gate and fence materials were to cost extra. I gave them a $511.90 deposit. The project was contingent upon *** approval. The *** did not approve the 1st design and the manager of the company talked me into letting them try again. They said I needed to pay $1000 for the rendering which I did. The *** approved the second design but then the salesman told me it would cost $10,000 for just the gate and fence. I was shocked and he called his manager who agreed to lower the cost to $9200. I really wanted this gate and fence and paid an additional $920 deposit. But the next day, I realized that was just a ridiculous amount of money to pay. I contacted the salesperson and told him I changed my mind and why, and he agreed it was. He offered to make it out of wood but that is not acceptable by the ***. I said I wanted to shelve or cancel the project and get *********** back. He said they can't give the deposits back because they've spent a lot of time on it and it was approved by the ***. I said I would submit a complaint to the BBB because I felt I was in the right. He said maybe they could install the pavers for $4000 or $3000. I declined because the gate and fence were the primary things I wanted, plus the original cost for demo and paver install was only $2500. I said they did not do any work except for the rendering which I paid for and I don't see why they can't refund ***********. He did not reply.

The sales representative assured me my security deposit of $1,000 was completely refundable. He did not give a time restriction for a recovery of the security deposit. I canceled the job and requested my refund. Now they claim it is not refundable, even though no services were rendered. The building project was not started nor completed.
