June 29, 2024 approximately 5:00pm Bartender ***** and business need to be charged with destruction of property for confiscating my drivers license and snapping it in half. ********* claimed it was a fake **, yet it was not. He then took the ** and proceeded to snap it in half and showcase to every guest sitting at the bar laughing and taunting me with my now broken **. I had a flight the following day and was unable to fly home without it. I told the bartender I would call the police to retrieve my ** and spent one hour waiting for police to arrive. Towards the end of the hour the bartender finally decided to throw my ** at me, presuming he realized I was not lying and the police were already on their way. As I waited for the police to verify my ** and retrieve it, the bouncer proceeded to accept a photo on a phone as a form of acceptable ** for a younger looking gentleman which is illegal. I proceeded to take photos of the evidence as a means to demonstrating the unfair and illegal treatment which I received. The bartender and/business is responsible for destruction of property, accepting illegal forms of identification, and possible discrimination. Furthermore, I would like the business to cover the costs of the hurdles I endured for no longer having a license to drive or fly home the following June 30th.

    Business Response

    Date: 07/16/2024

on the evening of June 29th I was informed that an ** believed to be fake was confiscated by our daytime bartender. this bartender has over 20 years experience of checking **'s as well as current *** certification through the ****  when he informed me of the incident I asked him to get a second opinion, there were three other bartender in attendance and they also felt the ** was fake (because it snapped in half when he felt for the integrity). At that time ***** placed the ** behind the bar and was told to contact the authorities if the consumer wanted their ** returned. instead he requested the guest call if they wanted their id returned, which is not our policy.  approximately 45 min later our first security guard arrived, a retired **************** officer, and he said that the ** appeared to be a legitimate CADL despite its tattered nature. ***** offered to return the ** and apologized but at this time it was not enough to satisfy the understandably frustrated patron.

I reviewed the security footage and it supports the events from both perspectives; the bartender should have returned the broken ** and simply refused service if he believed the patron to be under age and not kept the personal property for any period of time.

All bartenders have been informed in writing that they are not under any circumstances to confiscate any ** whether they believe it to be real or not.

I have called and emailed the patron seeking resolution, and am willing to issue the requested refund the complainant is requesting , I only ask that proof of cost incurred be provided.

if there is any further action that can be taken on our end to rectify the situation I am willing to do so.
