There are eight unauthorized transactions against my **** account from Scribd for $11.99 monthly from May 2024 through December 2024. I donot have an open account with scribd and I didn’t authorize any transactions with them. This is the second time that Scribd has done this. The first was in 2021. **** got involved and I closed my account with Scribd to ensure no more unauthorized transactions after that one month of use. Scribd refunded all of those monthly unauthorized payments back to me, however Scribd has access to my bank account information and made 8 unauthorized transactions. I shut down my **** checking account just now and contacted Scribd who has no customer service. Scribd has no customer service contact and is difficult to contact regarding this matter. What can I do to get my money refunded and ensure they don’t charge “non-customers” fraudulently?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

According to our system, you started a trial subscription for the account under the email address you provided on April 16, 2024. After your free trial period ended, your account automatically enrolled in a recurring subscription. Since your subscription was not canceled, you were charged for the subscription as outlined in our Subscriber Agreement. This is the source of the charges that you saw. You can review that agreement here if you wish: ***********************************

To resolve this issue, we have canceled your subscription to prevent any further charges. We have also refunded your most recent charge in accordance with our Refund Policy, which can be viewed here: ********************** Please allow up to a week for this refund to process.

Finally, we have also followed up via the ticket you created for this issue: Ticket #*******. This will have more information regarding this issue. For any further questions regarding this issue, please feel free to reply to your ticket and we will be happy to assist.

On 2/17 I received an email from Pay pal telling me that a charge was made to my Bank account through pay pal by the referenced company. Red flags went up for two reasons:1. I had started a trial subscription with the company giving them my banking information but not pay pal as a payment method, (although my bank card is linked to PayPal).2. The amount of the charge - $12.71 - was different that the amount I would have been charged if I did not cancel the trial subscription - $11.99.I experienced a lot of difficulty in trying to cancel the trial subscription since the process is unclear and gives confusing information. The company contacted me on the day the subscription expired and did not even give me a chance to cancel but immediately charged my bank account. I have tried to communicate with them to no avail. Their phone number is non-working. They are not being responsive to my emailed requests for a refund. Kindly intervene in this matter.

While we were able to locate the ticket this customer has filed for this issue, ticket #*******, our system shows that we reached out to them for more information on February 19th and that they did not provide the requested information.

It is important to note that in order to issue a refund, we must locate the account that the charge in question is connected to first. Since the email address the customer provided was not connected to an account with an active subscription, we need for them to follow up with us and provide the requested payment information so that we can assist them further with this issue.

Should they like for us to assist them further with this issue, they can follow up with us through their ticket at any time with a copy of either their PayPal receipt for this charge or their PayPal email address and we will be happy to investigate further. Thank you!

I am rejecting this response because: This was a trial subscription which ended on 2/17. I tried unsuccessfully to cancel before the due date resulting in a charge of $12.77 as shown in the attached screen shots from Pay pal & **** of America. The amount charged is different from the amount of  $11.99 which the company stated I would have been charged for a monthly subscription had I not canceled prior to the trial expiry date. The cost discrepancy plus the fact that Pay pal was involved in the transaction, (although it was not provided as a payment method) raised red flags!! Why was Pay pal involved at all? Why was I charged $12.71 & not $11.99? I have nevertheless provided all the information the company required plus attached screenshots so should now be refunded the amount that I was charged & that the company received. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Complaint: 21327760

I am rejecting this response because:

The company keeps writing me with spurious information. This is my response to their most recent e-mail:

I'm trying to get you to understand that this was a trial offer which expired on Feb 17.  For several days prior I tried to cancel the offer but was unable to do so because of the confusing messages I received. So on the expiration date Scribd charged my bank account, for some unknown reason through Pay Pal, although I gave you my bank account number to set up the trial.  At no time did I give you Pay Pal as a payment method so it's a mystery to me that Pay Pal became part of the transaction.  Another mystery is the amount I was charged.  When I initiated the trial it indicated that I would be charged  $11.99 if I did not cancel before expiration but I was charged $12.71!  Why $12.71 when the amount you quoted was $11.99?  Also, you have produced this garbled email address which makes no sense.  I do not, repeat, DO NOT HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION IN MY APPLE ACCOUNT UNDER THAT EMAIL ADDRESS!!! SO PLEASE STOP WASTING MY TIME AND REFUND MY $12.71! All you need to do is reverse the charge back to the **** of America account which was charged.  I have already sent you screen shots from both the **** and Pay Pal.  There is absolutely no need to dredge up another email address that I have never used and has nothing to do with me!!  Kindly ensure that your next communication to me will be an acknowledgment that you have executed the refund.  No more, no less.  Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    ***************************

This is a slideshare business and it's parter or division of Scribd. The company makes it extremly difficult to unsubscribe from their service. They are slow to repsond and even after giving them credit card information ask for more proof that they have billed you. I cannot be the only person who has gone in circles trying to stop getting automatically billed by this compnay. The company covers Scribd, shareslide and everand.

We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this matter might have caused! We've confirmed that our support team has been in contact with ***** via email in response to their support ticket #******* where we confirmed the following details related to their subscription - please bear in mind the email addresses listed below are slightly redacted for security purposes:

    - ***** initially contacted us through ticket #******* with the email address sud****************, which was linked to a free Scribd, **** account

    - We requested additional information from ***** to locate the account that was linked to their Scribd, **** subscription and used that information to locate a second account under the email address **************************

    - After ***** successfully verified that alternative email address, we confirmed that ***** had not canceled their recurring subscription, which is required to prevent further charges as seen in our Subscriber Agreement: **********************.

    - We proceeded to manually cancel the subscription and refund their latest charge today (January 27, ****), which we did communicate in our last response to *****'s ticket.

If ***** should have any other questions or concerns regarding this subscription or their refund status, we're happy to help if they follow-up with us via email. Thank you!

I placed an order on 11/2/23 in the amount of $69.86. I received fraudulent tracking emails and never received the items. Buyer beware, this company is a scam.

I have been an ongoing victim of identity theft & hacking since March 2019. I have personal information on SlideShare that I did not create. These slides are attached to my LinkedIn account that has been repeatedly hacked and I believe these unsanctioned slides are the connection. I am unable to completely remove the connection and have repeatedly asked for the company support to remove these to no avail. I am continually told to sign in to close my account but I never signed up for one. When I reply with this information there is no further communication with them This is a fraudulent account and a privacy violation that needs to be rectified without further delay!
