On February 8, 2025, I visited Carbon Health at ***************************************, to receive treatment for an earwax blockage. Before proceeding with treatment, I inquired about the cost with the front desk staff. I was explicitly informed that my financial responsibility would be $88.55 (see attached: carbon_health_proof.jpg). This amount was consistent with the estimated pricing listed on Carbon Healths website for earwax removal in the Bay Area (see attached: carbon_estimate.png). Based on this information, I consented to the treatment and paid the treatment cost upfront. The procedure was straightforward, with no complications or additional treatments. Only one ear was treated, as the provider confirmed that no intervention was necessary for the other ear.On March 3, 2025, I received a surprise bill demanding an additional $123.88, significantly exceeding the amount I was originally told. I contacted Carbon Healths billing department to dispute the charge, as it contradicted the prior cost estimate. Following their internal review, they insisted that the additional charge was valid and refused to adjust the amount. They provided an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) (see attached: carbon_health_eob.pdf) but declined further discussion or negotiation.I believe this additional charge constitutes a deceptive billing practice, as I made my healthcare decision based on the cost estimate provided at the time of service. I am seeking a resolution in the form of a billing adjustment to reflect the originally quoted amount of $88.55 and to ensure Carbon Health adheres to transparent pricing practices moving forward.
