I was in a minor car accident on September 2, 2022. Due to police arriving on scene, San Luis Ambulance arrived. I stated I was fine and did not want their services. They pulled me into the ambulance and strapped me down. I was told I was being taken to the local hospital. Again, I said I did not want to go, but they claimed I couldn't make that decision. (this is illegal to detain someone in this manner). Further proof of this is based on the fact that I discharged myself from the hospital as I didn't want to go there in the first place. Now, forced against my will and expressed desire to not go, I was charged over $3000.00 for their "services" ( a few minute unauthorized ride). I have San Luis Ambulance my car insurance info to cover their bill. Now, I received a notice threatening to send me to collections over $54.32. I communicated with them, took a hit on my insurance, and suffered an illegal abduction to only be threatened further. I expect San Luis Ambulance to write off the $54.32 due to the illegal actions their paramedics took which, in fact, the company is liable for.

      Business Response

I appreciate the BBB for taking the time to contact our office
with our customer’s concerns.  San Luis
Ambulance is always interested in resolving the concerns of our customers and
strives to provide the highest quality service possible to the community.
In September 2022 the customer utilized our service and was
transported to the hospital based on his medical condition at the time of assessment
and according to established treatment standards.

Subsequently his insurance carrier was courtesy billed at
the at San Luis Obispo County approved standard service rates for the transport.
The invoice reflected our standard base rate, mileage charge from the point of
pick up to the hospital, and for supplies used in connection with their
care.  In order to secure that payment, San
Luis Ambulance sent five courtesy invoices, over a 90-day period, with the last
two indicating that the customer was responsible for the account balance not paid
by the customers auto insurance carrier.

In the invoices was a request for the customer to
contact us so we could discuss the remaining account balance.  Typically, when a customer contacts us
regarding an account balance, we are able to reach a suitable arrangement to
resolve these matters by an adjustment to the amount owed, assisting the customer
with an appeal to their insurance carrier or payments.  However, in this case we did not receive any responses
to our request. Accordingly, a final demand letter was sent to the customer.

I am rejecting this response because: I was illegally abducted by this company.  No notice was sent offering any form of resolution outside threatening demands and promises that if I didn't pay, I would be turned over to collections.  San Luis Ambulance illegally transported me against my will and incurred charges against me despite unlawfully detaining me.  I expect that a letter of apology be issued (at the very least) and an investigation be made into their less than scrupulous business practices.
