    Their guys did an excellent job on our floors. We get frequent comments on how beautiful they are.

    Horrible. Their contract calls for a 50% deposit, which I foolishly paid -- tens of thousands of dollars. In fact, it is actually illegal for a contract to take a deposit of more than $1,000. The law also requires a contractor to tell you when they will start and when they will finish. Their contractor does neither. In the end, they never finished the job and walked off because I asked them to return the unearned portion of the illegal deposits.
    Their workers are a nightmare. When painting the house, the threw a tarp over our pet tortoise and sprayed paint all around him, without warning us or simply asking us to move him for a day. That's a small taste of the disrespect we suffered.
    Do some research. Look up the license. See who holds it, and whether that person has a record. Check up on the owner, and see what you can find in terms of a work history and a financial history.
