Donor Network West is a fraudulent company preying on families during the hardest times of their life. They lie to me when we are scared and alone. On December 5th, my husband was taken to the ** due to a intercrannial hemmorage. While in the hospital, I mentioned to a social worker about the fact that I had some trauma with my husband before his death and my need for counseling. Within a few hours, the fraud began with Donor Network. While my husband was still alive, but in a coma, two men, ******************* and *********************************, came into a patient waiting room. I told them of some trauma I had gone through with my husband. I was alone and didn't know what to do, and they pretended to care! On that date Dec. 5th, 2021 in Fresno, **. at ****** ****************** Hospital, they talked to me about how Donor Network West, would be a great option for "aftercare," if we decided to donate his organs. I didn't know that they they are the 2nd largest organ donor money maker in the country. These two men said that if I signed my husbands organs to Donor Network West, that my 9-year old girl, and my 7-year old disabled son, whose father was dying, would have counseling help from their "aftercare" department. They also promised help with any services and support we would need. They said all I would have to do is call "Circle of Care," in ************, where we live. They even gave me a pamphlet with this information. I was promised my family would be helped AFT** the donation. INSTEAD, AFT** I signed the paperwork; we got home and there was NO ONE TO SUPPORT **! I called "Circle of Care" in *******, and they had never heard of DN, and were concerned that DN was using their name to have families sign over their loved ones organs. I was so duped and lied to! When I complained to the **** she didn't offer any counseling for my kids grief or for myself. Instead she only offered 3 sessions for myself. I was tricked into signing over my husbands body and I want it help! Thanks

    Business Response

    Date: 10/25/2022

. Our written response, below,  is not detailed, because we are prohibited by state and federal privacy laws from releasing details about any  individual who may heave been referred as a potential organ or tissue donor, their families, or any person who is waiting for or has received a transplant as a result of the generous gift of a donors organs.

As the non-profit organ procurement organization federally designated to facilitate the donation of organs in your area, Donor Network West is not a business per se, and we do not have a contractual or service- providing relationship with any party other than the federal government.  We do, however, receive personal information regarding patients and their families in hospitals, and we protect this information zealously.  For this reason, we cannot provide a response about a particular family or donor. In addition, it is a violation of both state and federal law for a person to give or receive anything of value in exchange for the donation of organs for transplant, and hence, while Donor Network facilitates and accepts such gifts, it does not provide anything but gratitude in exchange for the gift, and it does not sell organs or tissues.  Donor families are precious to us, and have saved the lives of thousands through their actions.   To clarify,  Donor Network West is not a counselling service or a health care provider, although it does provide opportunities to join the supportive community of donor families and recipients, and it remains available to the community as a resource for needs experienced by those in the donation and transplant circle of life, such as the location of and contact information for public resources for mental health services.
