We had a contract with Central Valley Landscaping, Gilbert V*********, and he took at least $15k of our money for unfinished work. He was also not paying subcontractors. As we investigated what was happening, we know of at least two other projects where he took money. He asks for all of the money upfront, which we did not give him. I'm looking for others who would like to discuss potential legal action: C************************

Gilbert has abandoned our contract after taking our money. We contracted with Gilbert back in May of 2022 and were told our job would take 3 months. Then he said it would be done by December of 2022. In December our job was only about 20% done . He would not show. He would not return calls or texts. He would have some sub come out only to not have direction and then do something incorrectly. He took $58,000 of our money early on which accounted for 85% of the total contract without performing even a quarter of that work. We also were never left the materials we paid for. He left work half done and now we are unable to get a permit for our outside kitchen. We are now 10 months in and we are now not receiving any contact from him at all. The work that was done was not to per design and poor quality. We now have no way of getting our money back.

DO NOT HIRE GILBERT!!! -He will tell you a sub is coming and they will never show. If they contact him and tell him they need to come on a different day, he just won't tell you or give a heads-up. The people doing our gunite had questions and could never get ahold of Gilbert. They'd come knocking on our door and we'd have to make split decisions. He contacted a tile guy to see if he could do part of our project and when the tile guy tried to confirm, he couldn't get ahold of Gilbert for well over a week resulting in lost time.- Halfway through our project, we realized that we made a huge mistake hiring Gilbert because the work was so poor and he was just an all-around horrible contractor. We had already paid him 100,000. We decided to take out a small serving bar that we originally had in our design that was worth 7,000. He blatantly told me that we couldn't take it out because Lino (his office manager and family member) had already begun working on it. Luckily, I had already told Lino that we had decided against it and Lino had told us it wasn't a problem because he hadn't even started it. He also told my husband that he had lined up multiple subs when in fact, he didn't. . He also told us the city hadn't approved our pool permit. We contacted the city and Gilbert hadn't even taken it in.
-The concrete subs also used my neighbor's lawn for their wheel burrows ruining THEIR grass. We called Gilbert and Gilbert promised that he would talk to my neighbors and make it right, He didn't. He also doesn't line subs up one after another so it drags your project out. -He's unethical! He literally told us he was holding off on completing our project because he wanted leverage on us.
-His subs would constantly tell us they couldn't get ahold of him and hated working for him! He would get mad at us for talking to them, but it is hard when they leave notes on your door saying they're going to put a lean on your home because the contractor hasn't paid them.
