Back in October of 2024 I took a jeep to Smog and more for a break inspection with the intention of just getting it registered to sell as is as it had a bad engine. **** there said that he could repair the engine for about $2000 but i didn't want to spend that amount to fix up a truck I was just going to sell as is an i declined the work. over the next few months i changed my mind and took the truck back to **** on 12/21/24. he examined the vehicle and gave me a list of problems that would fix the engine and said for $1800 to $2000 he could fix all of the issues. about a week later i contacted him for an update and he said that all of the work that he did was complete but they uncovered another bigger problem that would be vastly more expensive to fix rendering the engine unreliable with potentially disastrous failure. He said that this was discovered when they changed the oil and said, and I quote " i wish i would have checked that before doing all of the other work". I asked him for a reduction in the bill based on that and he said he would discuss that with me. when i arrived to pick up the truck the bill was for over $1800 (which was originally quoted to provide a reliable engine) and they would make no further concession. I feel that the responsibility to properly diagnose the engine in advance should have been on them. Being that they are professionals mechanics who specialize in Jeep trucks, they should have told me the engine was not repairable or considerably more expensive than the quoted amount and I would have declined to do the work. I don't feel that paying the cost that they quoted to do the repairs for an engine that is now not usable is a burden that I should have to assume. This should be on Smog and more to absorb for their mis or lack of diagnosis.
