    My husband is a disabled veteran, and we are both senior citizens (78 and 74). ****, the *** of the company, was aware of these circumstances and exploited them after we hired him to remodel our bathroom.First, **** asked for $11,700 up front for a job he promised to complete yet never intended to start. Per the Contractors ******************** "Contractors cannot ask for a deposit of more than ************************************ $1,000, which is less." I was not aware of this until after the fact. The projected cost of the project was $15,800. **** maneuvered around the law by listing the additional money above the 10%, as a progress towards the project. However, no progress was made towards the project, because **** never started it. Almost 4 months have passed, and **** has neither started the project nor delivered any materials. My bathroom remains in the exact the condition it was prior to meeting ****. Second, when **** presented the contract, he pressured and rushed us to sign, making empty promises that he never intended to honor. He dismissed the idea of providing me an opportunity to have my son present to review documents or the terms of the contract, prior to obtaining our signatures. Furthermore, **** misrepresented details of the project and misled us regarding the materials that would be used. Third, the signed contract incorrectly stated that we had only 2 days to rescind the contract. California Bill AB-2471 prompted a law that seniors have 5 days to rescind a contract. **** failed to honor or acknowledge this law and did not allow us to terminate the contract after the second day, knowing we did not feel comfortable moving forward. Lastly, **** has been aggressive, demeaning and has consistently raised his voice when asked about a refund. He has been uncooperative and dismissive of our concerns. Additionally, he has neglected to provide a timeline or agreement as to when we can receive our money back.
