In my opinion, Pledgeling.com is in a joint SCAM with legacy.com Legacy.com puts up an obit. Under it, is a big donation area. In our case, several people donated this way to go towards a charity. Not only were they charged outrageous fees for donating, but when pledgeling.com sent the money to the charity, they took out fees AGAIN. In one case, the fees amounted to about 20% of a very large donation. We are talking hundreds of dollars to these two companies. Not only does pledgeling.com charge enormous fees, it sits on the money for a very long time. The recipient does not get a list of donors, but has to set up an account with pledgeling.com to see the list. And did I mention that there is also a fee for that? I find it unconscionable. My recommendation is to not donate via these two companies, but instead send the charity a check directly.

Most of this is not correct. If someone uses the donation option on a Legacy.com obituary to make a donation to (say) the deceased's favorite charity, they have the option to tip -- or not. Every day many donors change or zero out their tip, as did two of the six May 2023 donors to ****** Community Tennis Program. We do deduct the cost of credit card processing, since when there is a $100 donation, only about $97 is sent to ** by the card processor. That would also be true if the charity was processing its own credit card transactions. The claim that we sit on the donations "for a very long time" is again not true; the donations in question were made between May ***** 2023 and we sent out payments for all May donations, including these to ****** Community Tennis Program, on June 5th. If a charity wants faster delivery via ACH (direct deposit) or early payout, we offer those options. It is true that we do not print the list of donors on the check stub, since we send out ***** payments per month and the donor list for many of them would be pages long (and that would be a waste of paper since most organizations want this information digitally). The charity receiving the check is able to use key information printed on the check to set up a free account with us where they can see more detail on the donations. It is untrue that there is an additional fee for that.
