I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding a misleading and deceptive business practice by Ham Radio Outlet (HRO), a company that sells amateur radio equipment via its website (*********************************).On the evening of 5/21, I purchased an amateur radio transceiver from **** website. The product page clearly indicated that the radio was in stock at their ******* location. Furthermore, the website stated that orders would be fulfilled from the nearest location with stock available. Given these representations, I had every reason to expect that my order would be processed promptly and shipped from ******* within a business day, as is customary. However, on the morning of 5/22, I received an email from HRO stating that the radio is now on backorder and that I am seventh in line to receive one when it becomes available. This development came after my payment was processed and the order was confirmed under the premise that the item was in stock. This situation is deeply troubling for several reasons: False advertising: The product was advertised as in stock when it was not. Bait-and-switch tactics: I was induced to place an order based on misrepresented availability, only to be informed afterward of a delay. Failure to deliver as promised: The company misled me on shipping timelines and fulfillment location. These practices are not only unethical but may also violate consumer protection laws regarding online retail conduct and truthful advertising. At best, this reflects gross incompetence in inventory management; at worst, it appears to be a deliberate attempt to secure sales under false pretenses.I request that this matter be investigated promptly. I also urge your office to review HROs advertising and order fulfillment practices for broader patterns of misconduct that may be affecting other consumers.
