I have had nothing but trouble with Fortis but our biggest issue was in february 2024 they replaced our card reader and when they did they gave us a new account but never closed the old one. Since then to today(6/02/2025) I have been through countless phone calls, emails, docsigns and more to get that account closed and cancelled. I am being charged $140.20 a month for nothing and if you ask for a supervisor they give you every excuse on why they cant.Initial Complaint

As a small business owner I was attempting to setup Fortis with Gunbroker however when I entered in the processor information and attempted to test the connection with GB it would fail. After several phone calls and emails to my Website provider (CoreForce) It was determined the issue was with Fortis. Called them, apparently for roughly 7 months now my account was not fully setup. A little annoying, prolly an email somewhere i missed so thats on me. However, the surprise I got a few days later when Fortis tried to hit me with a 1k "credit card processing fees" charge was a bit shocking to say the least. I called Fortis to try and get some answers and it turns out when I attempted to test the connection between GB and fortis, I can only assume GB tried the transaction lets say 50 times before failing out. However Fortis counted each and everyone of those (for a total of roughly 3.5k times) as a credit card transaction despite my account not being fully setup. I was told on the phone by several people that essentially its tough luck, and im expected to pay. I spoke to one individual who actually tried to help me with the issue, and pushed it upstairs. I was to call back and speak to her again today only now however my account is in collections (which took them only about 2 days to do) and all my calls get routed to someone who wants me to just pay them and not help with the matter. The main issue of which of course was why was I not notified of the thousands of transactions being made from the same vendor, for the same amount, and why was there not a stop put in place to prevent these transactions from continuing to occur? The lady I spoke to on the phone stated that a stop was supposed to be in place and a flag was put on my account to be notified but noone seemed to do either. An now im suddenly expected to pay for something that; from where im sitting, is a failure on the part of Fortis.Initial Complaint

We requested to cancel our account in Feb 2024, then again in March after having so many problems with this company and their processes. Cancellation docs signed in March and was told they would attempt to provide a refund for the $140 and $2.08 charged. Then Fortis charged our account again in April another $140 without authorization. So now I'll have bank fees as well to have this payment stopped.Initial Complaint

I reached out to Fortis in June and told the rep R*** ******* that my gun store is currently going through TI and will not be complete till at least in 4-5 month and Ryan agree to put a notice in my account not to bill until the gun store is open. This is just the beginning of the nightmare and as soon as I signed up the agreement Fortis has been withdrawn money from my bank account for no reason since none of the service was provided. I reached out to Ryan at least 7 times through emails, phone calls and also had my banker involved and he apologized, and states will bring to Fortis team E**** ********* and April Jones and promised to close the account and refund. Guess what it's already been almost 6 months since June and I have not received any refund as they promised, and I still get charged monthly for the services they never deliver. I believe Fortis has been using this tactic to scam customers and I have to have my banker to make a new account for a business which is a hassle. If anyone is interested in a class action lawsuit against Fortis please contact me.Initial Complaint

We used this credit card processing company and discontinued their services because of excessive fees. We requested account closure on 9/12/24 and had not processed any cards with their terminal for weeks before that. Fortis still charged us processing fees for the month of September even though we didn't use them to process any credit cards. We have been refused a refund. Transaction date 10/3/24 in the amount of $79.95.Our problem is, if we did not use your services to process any credit cards we should not have been charged processing fees.Initial Complaint

I closed my merchant account in May 2024. In june they billed me, then they billed me in July again. I called and they apologized and said it was resolved and I would get a refund. Never got the refund ant they billed me again in August. I called again at the beginning of August 2024
this time I spoke with Ellen (she said she is the only one in that department with that name) and she said it was all taken care of and that she was going to process the refund ( confirmation# AAA181). Again they billed me today Sept 2024. No refund. I have now gone to my financial institution and filed a FRAUD claim with them against Fortis. I want this resolved and my money for July, August and September refunded imediately.Initial Complaint

Fortis Pay was informed that we are not interested in their payment processing terminal nor services. Unit was returned to Fotis after several weeks of us trying to get a return authorization from the company. 1 year after the company received their equipment along with a close our account statement from the customer that their services were not needed nor desired Fortis continued to charge our bank account for services never rendered. on 7/23/2024 we signed a stop payment document and payments continued to be taken for services we didn't use.Customer Answer

We are a small business that used Fortis as our processor for the credit card machine. On, 11/08/2023 the credit card processor didn't get our credit card transactions for 11/08/2023 $37.43, 11/09/2023 $349.70 and 101.60, and 11/10/2023 $30.68 total $556.84. When on 11/10/2023 called Fortis they transferred the call to Jason Ondriezek and he told me that VIsa Company had fined us $5,000 because we had a minimium payment amount for Debit transaction of $10. He said that this was the second time that store has had this situation by Visa. They said that with another processing company First Data Credit Card processing there was a warning and this was the second time. The first time that Visa suspects that you have a minimum on debit transaction they give you a warning and no fine is given. When I ask Mr. Ondriek he wasn't able to provide me with any proof for the suppose first time a few years back that the store was having minimum payments. I asked to speak witha supervisor and and he said he couldn't transfer me to anyone else. He was not nice about it and said that I need to pay $5000 fine. I told him we are a small company and live day by day to pay bills and employees. I spoke with Visa Company and they said that they only deal with the processing company not us. I spoke with Jason Ondriek and told him what they said I asked if he has proof from the previous year when it was the first time that I supposely got a warning which I never did. He was very nasty told me to pay and nothing can be done. I had to open with Clover for my credit card processor. One month ago I was trying to get a loan and in my credit report Collection company from Fortis is charging me $6300. I haven't gotten a letter or any proof of this fine. I didn't know that they were sending me to collection on my personal social security. I would like to see if you can help. I know that this should have been my warning not to fine me $5000. They didn't want to help us.Initial Complaint

Previous company payment logistics got taken over by Fortis and nothing but problems with credit card machine going down often, not customer service follow up or technical support follow-up. Cost for prices had gone up about a percent without letting know of adjustment. Then got bill today and with other charged for non pci compliance that I believed was done, then calling their support and was unhelpful on explaining what I did or didn't do, and how to be compliant, then spoke with customer service and said compliance is good for a year but it says 90 days, so is confusing at best. Wanted to cancel and says there is a termination fee of 500.00 in contract. I don't believe was made aware of which customer service said is there. I would not use this company, If you are looking for a credit card payment company I would look elsewhere.Initial Complaint

I opened a fortis account for my business sept 2021. Monthly fees were 24.95 a month. Without contacting me they raised my monthly to 34.95 then AGAIN to 69.95. I closed my account 2 months ago In sept 2022 and to this day STILL getting charged.
I called their support for explanation and they said they raised my rate without telling me because I didn’t fill out any forms they sent. THEY DID NOT CALL ME, EMAIL ME, OR SEND ME ANY DOCUMENTS. They also stated I was charge because there was a few months where “I was not charged” that was LIE. I have bank statements showing EVERY MONTH where the rates kept going up and recorded the phone call where the agent said “You won’t be charged anymore”. Today (Nov 4, 2022) I STILL got charged. The cancellation fees are outrageous. I spent THOUSANDS in fees just to get screwed by them. I am considering taking legal action due to their negligence and false information. This company is a SCAM who will charge you insane fees to do anything. They should not be in business and are extremely unprofessional.
