On April 22nd Tax Hardship Center contacted me asking If I was interested in getting help with taxes. I said yes. We had a phone call, and I asked if they could look at my situation and they said yes but it will cost 509.85. I paid them to do a preliminary report and share any findings. A week or so later the 28th of April we jump on a conference call between B**** *******, J*** and me. J*** took the lead and promised me that I was a good candidate to fix all my tax debt, but it will cost $5000. I paid half up front and would pay $500 a month for the next 5 months before they started any work and it would take 8-9 months to conclude my case. I asked for the preliminary report and any findings they found. J*** said, "there was no report available" and we have not done any work on your case yet. This was because there has not yet been a tax debt from the IRS because they have not received back taxes by paper and reviewed them yet. J*** assured me that everything is going to be good, and they are excited for me. After getting off the phone call with Brain and J*** and a day later I got back on a phone call with both and I explained that I was no longer interested in their services and gave them my reasons. They tried to sway me and not acknowledge the concerns I had. Brian and J*** could not, and I stood firm and letting them know through Phone call, Email, and Fax that I was cancelling my services with them even though they had not done one thing or provided any service for me yet and they acknowledged that. J*** and B**** promised that I would be refunded. I have checked in every week for 3 weeks and every week they say that they will process the refund, and it has yet to happen yet. I sent three emails; multiple texts two faxes and they are not returning phone calls. According to their agreement I notified them date stamped and signed in plenty of time to get a refund back. J*** said that they had done no work or provided any service, and they would refund me %100.

I have reached out twice since complaint. They have replied they are still working and should have refund soon from their “billing department” I have called multiple times and the receptionist says they do not have a billing department.

We appreciate your feedback and take this matter seriously. Upon review of your case, it appears that we have refunded you $509.xx and remainder has been charged back. When a chargeback occurs, it takes matters out of our hands and we can no longer process refunds for client cases since the bank is now in charge of returning the funds. We hope this helps and we are wishing you the best.

I am writing to express my concern regarding the lack of communication about my case. To date, I have sent five emails—three directly to J*** ********* and two to this mailbox—as well as left a voicemail requesting a callback from Josh. Unfortunately, I have not received any response.

The last communication I received was from Josh on April 11th. As of May 4th, it will be one month since I submitted payment, and I believe a brief update would be reasonable and appreciated. I understand that workloads can become demanding, but a short email acknowledging receipt of my messages and providing a status update would go a long way.

My husband and I entered into an agreement with Tax Hardship Center, LLC in good faith, seeking assistance to be placed into an "uncollectible" status with the IRS due to financial hardship.

We were contacted by J***** ******, who made the service sound promising and reassured us that we were good candidates for the program. However, he failed to disclose critical information that would have impacted our decision to move forward. We paid $1,000 upfront, and since then, two additional payments of $310 each have been withdrawn (January and February 2025), totaling $1,620.

At the end of December 2024, we were contacted by M***** *****, who was assigned as our case manager. We submitted all of our financial information to him, and he stated that it would be reviewed by their financial analyst to determine eligibility. By the end of January 2025, we still had not received any update. Repeated phone calls and emails to M***** went unanswered, and I escalted the issue to his supervisor, Karlyn Lopez.

Following the escalation, M***** resumed contact but continued to stall with vague responses. Eventually, he claimed we qualified for uncollectible status, provided our financial situation remained unchanged for two years—a condition that was never disclosed to us initially. I also asked what would happen if we sold our home, and he responded that a lien would be placed on our property. This was never mentioned during the sales process.
We received a call from Jeremy, who admitted that he failed to disclose the lien information when we first signed up. We were upset and requested a full refund. Jeremy and M***** assured us that their resolution dept would reach out. No one ever did. Now all calls to M***** and Jeremy go straight to voicemail, and we have been completely ignored. Adding to our distress, M***** instructed us to stop making payments on our current IRS installment agreement, leaving us vulnerable to IRS collection actions and additional penalties.

I reached out to Tax Hardship on January 28, 2025 11:53am for assistance on a tax issue. I spoke to *******@taxhardshipcenter.com. On January 29th 7:52am, less than 24 hours, I received notification that my employer will be laying off employees. I contacted ******* via email and explained the situation and asked for a refund. He told me that that they had a no question ask refund policy and that he would be forwarding my email to the accounting department and it would take 5-7 days for the refund to be processed. . I reached back out via email for an update on February 5, 2025, I spoke to ******* and he said he will look into it and give me a call back. I did not receive any communication on the refund. I reached back out on February 22, 2025 for an update, no response. I would like a refund of the funds that I paid for their service. I wasnt able to attach the email chain to this request, but I can always forwarded using an email address. Thanks

I tried their services only because they offered a refund if not satisfied within 2 weeks. I asked for a refund within 5days of intial service. Because they were asking for to much money for their services. Since then I have not received a refund and have just been led on. The person I spoke with initially said she put the request in, but I have not gotten a refund yet. And this was 2 months ago, when it started. I have sent several emails since then to try and get a refund.

I have a dept with the IRS. Having to go on disability in 2014. I returned to work in March 2022. I owed at the time $40,000.00. I heard of Tax Hardship Center. In 2022 I paid them $6000.0 to get this dept under control. Hoping to eliminate the penalties (which most of the dept came from). I call them, email them because of letters I receive from IRS. I received call back only when it was to late because of time I had to send money to IRS. This has been close to two years and nothing is resolved. It can't possibly take this long to settle. The interest and penalties continue to grow with IRS. I need them to do their job. I paid them $6000.00 and I have no idea what is going on. I am 66 years old. They are going to destroy me financially the way they have been dragging the along.

We appreciate your feedback and take this matter seriously. We understand that this case has been taking some time and we would like to enlighten you on the reason. When you retained us, a few tax years had "substitute for returns." What this means is the IRS filed the tax returns for you, and they were not originals. When this happens, we need to paper file your original tax return and are at the mercy of the IRS for their processing times. With that said, it appears the resolution department is actively working your case and has tasks in the very near future to reach out to you and discuss resolution options. We hope this helps and look forward to touching base shortly.

I signed paperwork with Tax Hardship 3/31/2023 to help with my 2022 tax debt. I paid $3500 for Federal and $500 for state. The federal tax settled as not collectable October 2024.
The state is still showing due, plus interest, and they withheld my real estate tax overpayment September 2024. I call N*** *****, my tax hardship representative, and he told me to send him the information showing the withholding of $1133.00 and he would call me back. I have called five times with no return call and finally, today, was told my file #519000 was closed. I told her the state still needed to be taken care of and she said she would turn it over to a new representative who would contact me within 48 hours. Please open a file for me as I'm sure I will need your help to solve this problem.

    Business Response

We appreciate your feedback and take this matter seriously. In reviewing your file, it appears we were only retained for Federal representation. We have billed you for two items: 1. Investigation Evaluation and Recommendation of Resolution, 2. Currently Non-Collectible filing and representation (Federal). In regard to the state, we advise that you contact them and set up a payment plan. We understand it can be frustrating owing the state back taxes, however, unless warranted, we advise our clients to call in directly to save themselves service fees utilizing us for what is a simple task. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

I am rejecting this response because: I paid for State Tax assistance and have not gotten any.  You are saying I signed contract for Federal only.  I did not sign any contract.  I had an agreement with N*** ***** that I paid $3500 for Federal and $500 for State and has asked for and received all State correspondence I've received with the promise to call back and he never called back.  S******* called after 3 months of repeated requests for a call back and told me the file was closed and State Taxes were my problem, not yours.

I have just completed and sent in my 2024 taxes and show $60 to be refunded from the State.  This will be held back because my records show unpaid taxes from 2022.  My 2022 taxes are increasing with interest every day until this is resolved.  I have also lost $1133 of my real estate tax refund of overpayment due to unpaid 2022 taxes.  I just want to make sure the Tax Hardship center is going to refund my personal loses due to their incompetence in settling my tax matter like I was told they would.

My husband contacted this company to file our back taxes. They told him it would cost $10,000 plus $1200 to start for discovery, finding out what we needed to file with the state and IRS, and there would be no other fees. After completing our taxes, they told us they needed another $7,500 to submit the Offer In Compromise to the IRS, which we payed. They told us after that, we would only owe the IRS about $1000. That was a year ago and after recently talking to a tax attorney we found out that we do not qualify for the OIC because of our financial situation, only a payment plan. Tax hardship recently told me they were going to try to settle for about $36,000. And when I asked about a payment plan, I was told that’s not an option. But, they were going to take more $ from us, then I would have been told in 6-10 months that we would have to make a payment plan, all the while my interest continues to mount. This company’s lies and lack of concern has cost us a lot of money, with no solution and I have left messages both emailed and voicemail, no one will reply. I am at a loss, and hope this does not happen to anyone else.

We appreciate your feedback and take this matter seriously. Upon review of your account, the facts are not aligning with your summary. After our initial investigation $495.00, you retained us to prepare 3 tax returns totaling $1,600.00, and to place your delinquent tax debt in an installment agreement for a service fee of $2,200.00. Please refer to the contract for accurate figures. In regard to interest owed to the IRS, we understand this can be frustrating as it continues to accrue when a balance is owed, however, that is something that is out of our control. We are sorry to hear you are frustrated with the outcome.

Tax Hardship Center did nothing for the money they charged. I went to the IRS office and inquired if they contacted them and they had not done so. There were no inquiries made from the Tax Hardship Center. The information that the Tax Hardship Center has was obtained from me via a text message to Mr. J***** ******. He said that he would contact the IRS, but he never did according to the IRS representative that I spoke with during my appointment.

    Business Response

We appreciate your feedback and take this matter seriously. To address your claim that the IRS was not contacted: When we contact the IRS in the investigation phase, we do so by calling the collections unit. When we get an agent on the line, we fax them our Power of Attorney (POA), and they clear our practitioners to speak on your behalf. Since you are in the Investigation phase, we do not place our POA on file. This can be misunderstood as "we never spoke to the IRS" since their agents don't see our POA on file. However, when you call you to have our meeting to discuss our findings, all of the information shared with you regarding your account was shared with us by the IRS. With that said, we do offer a 14-day moneyback guarantee and have issued you a refund. We wish you the best in resolving your tax debt matter.

Spoke with N*** ***** July 17, 2024. He stated that once we signed POA to the Tax Hardship Center they would take over communications with the IRS. We were told it could take 2 months for an agreement to be mad with the IRS. We were sent two emails from two different people approximately 1 month apart. The first one was from Jessy Zhu, and the second was from M***** *****, requesting a financial statement and income verification. We did not hear back from either representative once documents were sent. I confirmed with N*** ***** that the documents were received and they had everything needed for our case. We were told the IRS could no longer contact us, and they could not levy our accounts once the Tax Hardship Center took over our case, and they would be in contact with us once a payment plan was in place. On 11/20/24 our accounts were levied by the IRS. I attempted to contact N*** (as he stated he was our direct contact) but his number is no longer valid. I attempted to contact M***** ***** and again receive a message that no one is available. I am certain we have been scammed and they are doing nothing to resolve our tax debt.
