    Prior to the onset of Covid, I obtained $50 worth of gift certificates (one for $30 and one for $20) for massage services at Bali Foot Spa **** My husband and I are both seniors and did not get massages during Covid due to health concerns. We attempted to use the gift certificates on 3-11-23 but were told the business had been bought by a new owner during ***** and the new owner was refusing to honor the gift certificates. When I asked to speak to the new owner to attempt to resolve the issue, the manager stated he did not know her name and did not know how she could be reached. After researching the issue, I explained to the manager that the law requires that when a new owner buys an LLC or Corporation, the business is the same legal entity and has to honor the gift certificate pursuant to its terms and that the fact that a new person now owns it does not change any of its obligations. I provided the manager the gift certificates and explained that California Civil Code Section 1749.5-1749.51 states that a gift certificate sold without an expiration date is valid until redeemed or replaced. The manager continued to refuse to accept the gift certificates. I have attached a copy of the gift certificates.
