I paid for my daughter to learn a dance routine and perform in a recital. The whole entire time I was given excuses my daughters costume was forgotten, my daughter was left out, I was harassed when I try to take my daughter out of the class when I was not going to come back. They have Told me to meet them and stood me up twice. They let the class out 30 minutes before its even over. I tried to bring this up to the attention of the owner just to find out that she owns it with her daughters. I have paid a lot of money towards this so-called dance studio. They are unprofessional a waste of money in an embarrassment I want my money back. The owner is on drugs or on alcohol and cannot talk a full sentence. I dont think they pay their taxes I cant find them on anything

The parent signed her daughter up for dance classes on August 4, 2022.  In the on-line registration process the parent signed waivers stating she agreed and understood the policies and procedures included in the Student Handbook (also found on our website), which does include recital information including important dates. On August 30, 2022 a Newsletter was emailed and available in the studio as well. That Newsletter included details and reminders for parents for general studio information including appropriate attire for dance class, and that Recital Commitment Forms were due on October 15, 2020.  In the Newsletter it states costumes are provided for this show for $5 per costume rental fee. The average price to purchase a costume is $65-75 for dance studios in ***************. We provide rentals for the December show to lessen the financial burden to parents. Parent signed the Recital Commitment form dated October 11.
The Student Handbook and the Newsletter clearly states the not only is the proper attire necessary for class,so is attendance.  It is difficult to teach technique as well as choreography when a dancer is not in class. Bear in mind the dancer is 7 years old and had no previous dance experience. We had 3 months to teach technique and a routine to the Dancer with sporadic attendance.  Our system keeps track of attendance, and we have attendance saved in the system.
On October 25th,I received an email from the parent stating her daughter was let out of class early. After investigating the situation, I had to remind the parent that class is 45 minutes long at starts at 5:00 and ends at 5:45 pm.  Parent thought the hip hop class was 55 minutes (we do not offer 55-minute classes).  ****** stated that her daughter was let out of class early that day. Since the substitute was having trouble controlling the Dancer (Dancer was the only student in class that day), the substitute walked her to the lobby to speak to the parent.  The parent was not in the lobby.  Substitute left the Dancer with the Front Desk associate who was in charge of the Dancer.  Please note: the parent dropped the dancer off and said, If Im not back when you get out, just play in the toy room.  This can be verified by the Front Desk person as well as 2 other parents.
On November 28th,an email was sent to parents stating that costume hand out would be November 28-December 3rd during the last 15 minutes of each class. Parent did not bring the Dancer to class.  Parent left a voicemail stating they would miss yet another class and dress rehearsal.  While I was frustrated because it makes it difficult to catch a new parent up and we would also have to make accommodations to get her the costume rental, I texted Parent back to let her know it was still ok to perform.  I really try to give dancers every opportunity to perform, even when parents do not always make it easy. I texted Parent additional notes like the exact date and time of the dress rehearsal, and which show Dancer would be in on Saturday December 10th.  ****** stated she still owed $8 for the tights. Out of kindness to the Dancer I even changed their rehearsal from Tuesday to Thursday just so the Dancer could make the rehearsal.  The teacher brought the costume on the original day of dress rehearsal but did not bring it to the Thursday dress rehearsal.  (Again, we rescheduled the original dress rehearsal to accommodate this ONE DANCER). Parent had the wrong shoes (there is a picture of the correct dance shoes for recital in the lobby)for dress rehearsal and recital.  Both the Teacher and I apologized for not having the costume at the rescheduled rehearsal.  We were enroute the only to the studio when the parent would not wait 7 minutes to get her costume from us before the recital. I accept personal responsibility for this; we hand out costumes a head of time to prevent just this thing from happening. The Parent was told to have her Dancers hair in a bun (An example was given during the Parents meeting that she missed as well as an example at dress rehearsal and again at recital.) Parent threw Dancers hair in a very messy scrunchie.  Not at all recital quality or what we ask of the dancers.  We did in fact have one of the backstage parents re-do the Dancers hair as to not embarrass the dancer by not being performance ready and go on stage.
After the dancer performed, the parents came back stage and were irate and demanded get their daughter.  In the Recital Commitment, it states that 3 different times, 2 of which are highlighted, that we do not release dancers until the end of the show.  This is for safety reasons.  We have limited security and we also do not allow parents (especially men) back stage because dancers are changing costumes and we do not know the background of every person in the building.  This is a serious measure Dance Scene Studios take to ensure the safety of our dancers.
I went to the parents and calmly told them I would go get their Dancer and to never return to the studio.Dad was yelling obscenities and name calling and acting belligerent. I absolutely did not respond to this type of harassment. I turned and while I was getting the Dancer from backstage the Dad took out his camera and was heading back stage where the dancers were in various stages of dressing and **********.  ********** cameras have this recorded and I have asked that it be submitted to the ************* Department. Not only do we not allow males backstage (most of our dancers are female) but after cross referencing www.nsopw.gov we made the right choice. Mom in the meantime, pushed her way through 4 backstage parents and the Teacher in an attempt to get on the actual stage, but was prevented from doing so.
After the parents had their dancer, I told them I could care less about the costume and just to leave and at this point Aurora Public Schools Security was on the way.  The mom stripped the costume off the Dancer in the bathroom and threw it in the toilet. On the way out, the parents were yelling many obscenities in the presence of office staff and minors.
So as far as a refund:
Parent owes $8 for tights (per her text to me)
Parent owes $5 costume rental (per signed Performance Commitment)
Parent owes an additional $75 in costume damages since costume was urinated on and thrown in a toilet (per signed Performance Contract).
Dance Scene Studios did indeed teach their daughter for the amount of time she attended, taught their daughter a dance, and also provided her with a dress rehearsal, costume, and recital.

I am rejecting this response because: you change the dates and forgot my daughters costume. No one asked you to change anything we couldve showed up and did it the way you want it. I try to meet you twice to get my daughters costume and you were so busy and your car broke or something. Not my problem and not part of your business. you had me waiting each time up to 45 minutes when youre not prepared. This dance studio is fake and they dont know how to teach here I want my money back I will not except any answers. I cant believe I chose this place because it was $10 cheaper. I dont even see the business registered under the city I dont even know if this is a real business. The When my daughter and I was treated was unprofessional and everyone should know this place *****. you do everything half just to make the money you seem like a drunk desperate lady who has no money for your business.  Classes were cut short because her daughters have different jobs they are unprofessional and make you wear old costumes that dont fit

    Sincerely,
