Short:The owner (****) called to tell us our family was selected to adopt or our wonderful dream dog. After agreeing and sending confirmation that we did want to adopt They decided to back out gave him to another family Long My wife and I made the wonderful decision to want to grow our family this year. We have been looking for dogs for awhile. After much deliberation and research, we decided an Italian Greyhound would be an excellent fit for the many needs of our little family. We spent time searching for an Italian Greyhound we could rescue, even contacting breed-specific rescues. Even though we are ideal applicants, we were told that these rescues are not receiving the same influx of greyhounds they used to, and we would be waiting YEARS if we were even lucky enough to get one at all.Within 24 hours of this correspondence with this other rescue, they contacted us. They said they had information of an Italian greyhound coming to the state through a different rescue. We were so grateful for their help and felt this was a special, clandestine experience we were having to grow our family. We placed our applications in minutes, called to confirm our familys application, and after a week of waiting I received a call that we were selected. This meant the whole world to our small family and felt like a calling from the universe.Instead, I received radio silence the next day and was then followed by an email that they would be instead giving the dog to another family , even after we confirmed that we were selected. Why? Because another family (the ******) apparently was more deserving. What a heartbreaking decision by this company. After we have done everything right the long hours of research, the arduous application, all the hard things to just simply want to grow our family taken away. How can an organization choose to get peoples hopes up and break their hearts by saying we made it only to just take it away. It isnt right or fair.

The chain of events cited in Archies review never occurred. No one from Farfels Farm & Rescue ever talked with either ****** or ********. We never explained our adoption process to ****** because we never had a conversation. We exchanged phone messages but no commitments were made on either side.

Farfels protocol, in order to create the perfect match for that particular dog, requires extensive interviewing and reference checks. Our application requires 3 personal references, and none were given. We didnt get the opportunity to check references because they were left blank on the application.

Farfels requirements for adoption are strict because we are the only voice these rescue dogs have.

Id like to provide the additional reasons why we believe ****** and ******** are not the appropriate adopters for Bamboo. They dont have a fenced yard, and an Italian Greyhound needs lots of room to roam, to explore and run. They live in an apartment and thats not appropriate. Italian Greyhounds tend to be barkers, and we know from our 19 years of rescue that a ****** doesnt work well in an apartment.

We sensed that their intentions were for an Italian Greyhound rather than for a little dog to love on, care for and nurture. We always mention in our write-*** that we arent sure of the dogs breed. We dont do DNA testing, and therefore use information provided by shelter veterinarians, and that is always stated in our write-up. We never adopt to someone who requires a particular breed, and his review had in capitals that it may be YEARS before they can find a Greyhound.

****** was seeking to arrange a meet and greet with no commitment to adopt but he had yet to receive information about our process. We left a voicemail because we wanted to interview him to determine if he was a good fit. We didnt get a timely response, and when we did it was in the form of a voicemail.

Simultaneously Farfels received a call from Bamboos ****** that her children had fallen in love and they wanted to give Bamboo a forever home where he was already integrated into the family. No rehoming or additional trauma was necessary. After checking, we found them to be a perfect home for Bamboo.

I have adopted 2 dogs from Farfels rescue and both times were pleasant. They offer a week trial to bring the dog home and assess if the dog is a good fit in your home and with your lifestyle. They send you home with a lot of tips and handouts that give you an idea what to expect bringing home a new rescue dog. Thank you farfels for matching me with my best friends!
